    Xmas Saver!
I went to Mexico in September (back in 2001) early September, 9/11 happened when I was there!!

In two weeks I only had a couple of small showers in the afternoon, and they didn't last long, there was never a day that I wasn't sunbathing or out and about.

if you don't mind long haul, I would recommend Mexico, Dom Rep, I've stayed twice, in Playa Dorado area, (1st time just me, 2nd time with Daughter0 as you'd be going in sept, there may be a few children but not as many as a school holiday.

i love Tunisia, have been different months of the year, and Sept, your still be hot there are some lovely 4/5 star hotels, I always stay Hammamet area, there is yassime hammamet (newer hotels - more 4/5 star ones). x
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

I can recommend Italy and really loved Venice, Rome, Sorrento and particularly Sicily but there aren't great beaches. We did Taormina in Sicily for your budget but 9 nights, it was an adult 4* hotel with stunning views from the balcony and a great pool and good sightseeing options. We're trying the South of France this year in September and a lot of the beaches look lovely, such as Antibes, Villefranche and St Tropez.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

I would suggest Elounda in Crete, a very upmarket resort, decent weather at that time of year and not too far for a flight either. Only thing it wouldn't have as such is the white sands. A week at the Elounda Bay Palaca , 5*Half Board is currently £1038pp inc flights, transfers and baggage with Lastcheck.co.uk (departs glasgow 13th sept).
Alternatively take a look at the Algarve as there are some fantastic hotels and the weather will still be good at that time of year. It's mainly golden sand beaches but some of them are pretty spectacular.

Hurricane season does start in Mexico / Cuba way in September but if you go at the beginning of Sept you may not be too bad. My only thoughts are that it is a long flight for just a week? And for what you pay for a 4* / 5* in these areas at this time of year you would likely get a far superior quality in a european destination.

Have you thought about a cruise? You can fly to the Med for a weeks cruise.

There are some fabulous deals about on Sept cruises, and if you choose Celebrity or a similar upmarket cruise line you will get classy and relaxation.

We did consider cruising, but Mr Minx has spent about a third of his life at sea in one form or another and isn't overly enthusiastic about the idea unless it's *really* cheap!

Thank you for all the ideas, it's very much appreciated - I'm spending my spare time glued to TripAdvisor working through them all :)

Please help me and my husband book a holiday - we've been dithering for months now!

    Budget: £1100 each
    Flying from: any Scottish airport
    Date: any time in September
    For: 7 days

    We are looking for:
    - sunshine, but not *too* hot
    - a 4* or 5* hotel
    - ideally adults only hotel
    - somewhere we can laze by the pool/beach but do a little sightseeing if the mood takes us
    - we don't mind going long haul
    - good food

Clearly I'm biased but I would suggest taking a look at Cyprus.

September in Cyprus can be gorgeous: hot enough to sunbathe but cool enough to sightsee without wilting. Flights into Paphos from Edinburgh a couple of times a week. Enough history and sightseeing if you fancy it, plenty of pools and tavernas to suit.

If it doesn't need to be a hotel then there are some gorgeous Agrotourism places available. The Cyprus Agrotourism site has a searchable database. Casale Panyiotis is building a reputation as a place worth looking at as is the Library in Kalavassos. For people looking for something a little more polished, at the cost of authenticity, then Aphrodite Hills always has apartments available. RedBlueDoor at Pano Lefkara is worth a mention because of its lovely location.

It should be possible to create a flights + hire car + accommodation package within your budget easily.

It isn't the Caribbean or the Maldives but it does meet the criteria you referenced. At least I hope so; I hate it when I suggest Cyprus and someone says "Nooooo, I don't want to be in Ayia Napa so I can't come to Cyprus" ;)

Northern Cyprus is very good as well. Have been there a couple of times. Great places if you like to see historical sites and have always found it far less "touristy".

How about Cape Town? September is Spring, so not too warm yet.
Flights are from £630 each Glasgow to Cape Town via Dubai. Rent a holiday apartment for £350 for the week eg. http://www.homeaway.co.uk/p411987 and get a car. Total will be around budget.
