Where's classy, quiet and warm in September please?

Please help me and my husband book a holiday - we've been dithering for months now!

Budget: £1100 each
Flying from: any Scottish airport
Date: any time in September
For: 7 days

We are looking for:
- sunshine, but not *too* hot
- a 4* or 5* hotel
- ideally adults only hotel
- somewhere we can laze by the pool/beach but do a little sightseeing if the mood takes us
- we don't mind going long haul
- good food

We went to The Sands in Mauritius a couple of years ago and that was pretty much our dream holiday - we would go back in a heartbeat if the budget stretched that far this year.

We've been looking at Mexico and the Caribbean, but obviously September is in hurricane season and I'd rather not take the risk of having the only break we're going to get for another 2 years ruined by the weather. We've also looked at Egypt/Sharm but some of the 5* resorts seem a bit loud - we'd like somewhere classy and quiet to completely relax, ideally with white sand and turquoise sea to look at.

Any suggestions?

If you want classy - you might have to wait a while :p
What EXACTLY does not TOO hot mean, I note that you are flying from a Scottish airport!

We'd prefer an average temperature of mid to late 20s rather than 30C+ - we're so used to summers of less than 10C that anywhere scorching is really uncomfortable!

I should add - 'classy' doesn't necessarily equal posh, but, for example, if we were to end up in Spain, we'd prefer the hotel's evening entertainment to be live guitar music or some flamenco dancing rather than Daft Punk at serious decibels and wet t-shirt competitions. (Nothing wrong with either of those, but not the kind of holiday we're after this year!)

Premier Le Reve in Sahl Hasheesh, Nr Hurghada, Egypt. Adults only and very laid back. However, white sands and turquoise sea not really available in that part of Egypt. If you go later in September, the temperatures will be cooler. Have a look at the reviews on Trip Adviser and see if it is the kind of hotel you are after.

    Cuba

If you go AI you can laze on the beach and not see any locals or feel the atmospere

Or go Independantly and enjoy Cassa Familiar

Not too sure about Hurricane season at that time of year

It looks perfect, but the nearest available flight would be from Manchester - nearly 500 miles and 9 hours' drive away :(

Hi there, not sure about flights from Scotland but I would highly recommend the resorts of Kas and Kalkan on the Turquoise Coast of Turkey (nearest airport Dalaman). I went in September time and it was about 25-30 degrees.

Both are very pretty harbour towns, fairly upmarket, with some great hotels. Kas is the smaller of the two, and most of the hotels are on the road out of town, with pools and terraces leading down to the sea (with ladders directly into the water). No beach to speak of, but if beaches are important a little further along the road is one of the most beautiful in Europe (google Kaputas Beach). The towns are both laidback (Kalkan is a fair bit busier than Kas) with narrow cobbled streets leading up from the harbourfronts, full of cosy restaurants, craft shops, etc.

The coastline is stunning, there are plenty of interesting things to do inland too, plus it's easy to do a day trip to Rhodes.

The other island I'd recommend is Sardinia. The Costa Smeralda on the northeast coast is very expensive, but the Gulf of Orosei further south on the east coast is absolutely beautiful, and good value. The town of Santa Maria Navaresse is a good base and has some small, stylish hotels. You'd need a car. The setting between mountains and sea is spectacular, and Sardinian cuisine is a revelation.

(Please feel free to PM me if any interest; I am a travel journalist and can offer plenty more suggestions if you like!)

What about Nice or Monaco? Maybe a smaller resort like Villefranche?

The Amalfi coast, Positano, Ravello. Stunning scenery, great hotels and good food.
