In Europe I usually book hotels in advance because it's a lot cheaper. I've almost never had a real problem. The only serious complaint I had was a long time ago.
The odd dropped wifi, missing coffee, or burnt toast, but not enough to worry the MSE forum, I've always got it sorted or I set Mrs Bob the Saver on them
I book flights, and apart from the Volcano Ash (not their fault) and the odd delay, I go and I arrive in one piece without real problems, once in a while a bag goes walkabout but as 95% of the time I'm cabin baggage only it's VERY VERY rare.
Maybe the seat-back 'entertainment' doesn't work what the heck I have my tablet with MY choice of films. Maybe the Halal chicken wasn't - what the heck It hasn't poisoned me yet.
Between the US/Europe/Asia and on to OZ & NZ, I've had the odd flight time change but I always allow for that.
My hotel in Christchurch was flattened by an earthquake but before I got there (not their fault), I found another, I hope they did.
I've stayed in places throughout Asia that would fill some people's posts 10 times over with tales of wildlife running around the room - amongst many other things.
If I see a cockroach in a $5 room I find another and race them, (roaches not rooms). If there is a power-cut I switch on my torch, if the bed's a bit lumpy I just go to sleep then I don't notice.
I check my passport and visas are valid, I take out insurance and I always have my EHIC card and both parts of my driving licence,
(I have them with me right now).
I don't make phone calls if I don't know how much they will cost or carry an Idiotphone that racks up costs I don't know about because I want to exchange inane banter on *rsebook.
I take any number of back-up sources of money and multiple copies of my documents and tickets.
Why do I do all this, because it's MY responsibility, If I F**k up it's MY fault - I don't try to blame someone else, shout rip-off or sue them.
If people want everything to be just like home why the h*ll do they bother to go away.
Maybe I'm just lucky but as I'm outside the UK for more months of the year than 99.9% of the 'rip-off complainants' on this forum (and I have been for years) I must be bl**dy lucky.

Good post Bob. Should be compulsory reading for all the moaning folk that post on here seeking to blame others and get compensation for their own failings.
Just missed off the bit about how a real MSE user would always fly on the cheapest airline, usually Ryanair, without whining about poor service, lack of some comforts and having to pay for luggage, to sit next to who you want etc etc. That's why its the cheapest you muppets, and why real MSEers love them.0 -
Brilliant post Bob! Some people aren't happy unless they have something to moan about or someone to blame.
It couldn't possibly be their fault that they didn't read the email telling them to print off their boarding passes within a time frame to avoid (pretty hefty!) charges to have them printed at the airport... I've definitely done this but only shouted at myself for being a muppet and I'll never do it again!

Now where's that 2nd bottle.0 -
If only everyone has your outlook Bob.
I'm usually pretty (very) laid back but people who moan about the most trivial things or because they can't be bothered to read the screen in front of them
P*** me off.
I DO see things around the world that are bad but often not complained about because it would be useless or dangerous to do so. I can't change the world to be the way I want it (shame
)
but I accept that.
I hope you don't mind but this is my signature of the moment, Thank you.0 -

I do think that Bob now deserves his own sub board, given his increasing contributions.
Or perhaps renaming this entire board? "Thoughts and opinions of Chaiman Bob"?0
