BT Infinity

Options
I've just had a letter from BT saying they are changing the BB service to Infinity. I can get an engineer to come and sort it out and connect one PC.
1 Do I have to change?
2 What are the advantages.
3 I'm a complete technophobe and have a PC and 2 laptops plus various devices (ipod/kindle etc). How easy is it to connect all those up myself.
4 If I can't do them myself does anyone know how much it costs for BT to do them.

Thanks in advance.

  • 1. Wouldn't have thought they could force you to change. I presume there must be a reason in the letter?

    2. You should get higher download and upload speeds.

    3. If your current Homehub isn't changed, you won't need to do anything. They add a fibre modem in between the Homehub and your socket.
If they change your Homehub, then you'll need to change all the wifi passwords for the devices you want to connect. The password will be located on the rear of the Hub.

    4. If you have any issues, just come back on here. There are plenty of people on here who will help.

I got Infinity a couple of months ago. It was all pretty straightforward. We got a new homehub. The engineer set up OHs laptop while, helpfully, explaining what he was doing so I could do the same on mine. He didn't leave until we were all online. The Kindle was easy I got that sorted myself in seconds. The only issue I had was with my wireless printer but even that was sorted relatively easily.

The upgrade to Infinity may be without extra charge for a limited promotional period, but after that you will be paying extra. So I would not accept this upgrade without establishing the precise terms.
You will be able to reconnect your various wireless devices just the same way as you do at present, but it shouldn't be necessary unless the Hub is upgraded. Which version do you currently have?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
