amandajack1973 - just echoing what tealady has said. Start a thread with your own details - copy the post you've already made on here, and lay out your debts in the way you've seen PanickingHARD do on this thread (there's a sticky, a post that stays at the top of the forum, to show you how to do it) and people will be able to help, the way we've been helping PanickingHARD. This is the thread that he started, and your post will get lost otherwise. Don't worry, you can see from this thread how quickly things can turn around.

Just a quick note... A bit like a trailer for tonight, I guess...

*Adopts 'Action movie Trailer guy' voice*

This Evening.... The most AMAZING... Dragon-filled... 'wise-but-strange old man-tastic' post of the year... Hits your (PC or Mac) screens... One Bloke... One mission... One... MASSIVE... dragon... *inserts mental image of a vicious looking, fire-breathing dragon, FLYING at the screen in all its flamey glory... *darkness*... *for three seconds*... June 2007 *shiney letters*...

... I'm playing this up too much now... I'm going to come a cropper!!! ;):D

Anyway... where was I... Oh yeah... an update... Sorry...

Just saying thanks, again, and that although I've had to do SOOO much work today, and had to leave the office just after I got here at 8:30 this morning until about 14:00, I've still somehow managed to get a lot done, DFW-wise... AND... Have so far today spent £0.27p... EXC petrol, of course... AND i forgot my lunch!! I was walking in this morning, thinking DAMN, DAMN, DAMN... forgot to get lunch out of fridge... IDIOT... When I walked through the train station near my office and there was a guy giving out free £3 vouchers for a butty shop next to my office!!! No strings, "just give us a try" kind of thing... Simply £3 of free food (sandwiches/salads etc only, 1 per customer, today only)... I went in there when I got back to the office (instead of caving in to hunger and stopping on the motorway) and spent £3.27... minus £3 voucher... on a sandwich and a packet of Flamin' Hot *crowbars in a VERY dubious dragon reference* Monster Munch...

More when I get home... I have work to do people, I can't just sit here thinking about dragons all day!!! ........................ Or can i???? *leaves them with a cliffhanger* :D:D:D
Total Debt at LBM 30/05/2007: £28,720... I... Am... Calm...

Trying to repay my biggest debt first... the one to you lot!! :A

543... It seems I AM just a number... despite my protestations to the contrary!! ;)

Resolutions: 1, no food from 'Convenience' places during the day. 2, No Phone bill over £35 limit... EVER. 3, Fess up to Dad (Achieved). 4, No More Digressing! 5, Put expenses in regularly. (Achieved). 6, From now, I only pay cash. (Achieved). 7, Claim back my bank charges!
Unnecessary Challenge Week 2: £2.11/£10.00... kinda

Hello there! Just one thing - somebody said to cancel your account fee. Make sure you read what you are getting for this though. My boyfriend is payin a £10 Barclays fee per month but he gets a lower overdraft interest rate for this and I've worked out that the extra interest would be OVER £10 if he cancelled this. So he's keeping it for now....

Go for your LTSB bank charges. Only 2 in 100s of 1000s of cases have been lost. Not bad odds...

See Resolution 7 in my Sig... :D:D Once they go in there, there is no turning back!!!

I... Will... Reclaim... My... Bank... Charges... :D;)

    Hey look at you now...
I hope you've done something about publishing rights because I'm sure you could serialise this in a daily paper or something. It's got everything, doom and gloom/transformation and breakthrough/the feel good factor/battling against the odds ;) and mythical beasts (how did they get there)?
Seriously your enthusiasm can be felt through your posts. You're sweeping us along with you.....:D
So glad it's all coming together.
    Well done. :T

Ok... Sorry I'm late in updating, but I've been a tad busy... Who I'm apologising to, I have no idea... no-one is reading... Anyway... As this post progresses, you will find out why and who is responsible... You can start your own compensation claims for the 'almost unbearable pain' you 'suffered' in having to wait to read my "meandering nonsense" if you like... ;):D in fact you could maybe all join together and start a class action... Hehehe... Sorry... I'll just get on with it...

Right, the usual start... THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU... to everyone... As always...

Tonight, I left work determined to get 7 things done...

    1) Tidy my bloody flat...
    2) Do the dishes (well.. empty, then re-load the dishwasher)
    3) Speak to Virgin (pre 7pm) about their 'disgraceful interest rates and me' (the title of my first self-help book ;) )
    4) Put 2 loads of washing in during the evening
    5) Open my post
    6) Investigate available 0% balance transfer cards, choose one then apply for it
    7) Concoct a plot for a story about dragons and old men on the way home, then finish it later

I achieved, as you may be expecting, a big fat ZERO in my quest...

However, what I did do was FAR better...

I sat, all night, f***ying about on my PC... eh?

With a healthy mix of self-distain and very private pride, I sit 'before' you, still in my suit (minus tie) at midnight... (edit: 1:06am)

    Go me... I rule...

What I have done, in a nutshell (that Austin Powers gag still cracks me up 10 years on...), is variously suscribe and unsubscribe to things all evening...

Let me explain... unsubscribing first... (edit: Get comfortable... this goes on... even for me!!)

I walked in, turned on PC and I checked my account (for the 600th time today) and noticed whilst perusing old statement (as seems to be my want these days), to my SHOCK AND HORROR  , that £8.99 had been taken out of my account... Without my prior knowledge or consent... You may expect me to have been concerned... You may expect me to have been angry... you may have been right... for about 15 nano-seconds... then I really got mad...

I couldn't believe I'd paid for something on card and forgotten, or signed up for something I couldn't remember... I was about to phone the poilce and report an identity theft when I decided that I should probably look at the recipient of my hard-earned's name first...

    WORLD OF WARCRAFT BLIZ VILLACOUBLAY

Now, for the uninitiated, World of Warcraft, or WoW for short, is an online computer game... if you don't know it, that's all you need to know here... if you do, then no further explaination is required... Either way, time to move on...

The point of this particular section of todays waffle is this... I have been paying £8.99, per month, for 26 months, to Blizzard for the privilege of... well... nothing... AT ALL...

To fill you in on some back history, and pointing out now that this is neither a dig at Blizzard itself, nor the game...

In 2004 I had a mate. This mate was a computer nut... I believe the term is Ubernerd... He began RAVING on at me about a new game coming out called World of Warcraft... As a console boy, playing games on a PC seemed... well... Odd... to me. Over the next few months, he cajolled me and wore me down, and on the launch day of this game (in early 2005, as my financial records and a quick google search indicate) I came home from work with a copy of said game... I installed, I joined, I played, I was impressed, I got bored...

That entire cycle took something in the order of 6 weeks and I forgot all about the game and went about my daily life... Trouble is, my bank account didn't...

I'd seemingly ticked a box that allowed Blizzard to continuously take the aforementioned £8.99 p.m. from my account on a permenent and recurring basis... UNTIL... and here's the crux... I TOLD THEM NOT TO ANYMORE...

I have not played this game (it's not even INSTALLED on my PC anymore) for over 24 months... 2 years... and yet... AND YET... I've paid them Two Hundered and Fifteen Pounds and Seventy Six "&*^%$% pence because I "didn't notice them taking it"... I honestly, truly, didn't even NOTICE them taking it... Not once... in TWO YEARS...

    Shame, thy pseudonym is PanickingHARD...

When I think of the joy... the SHEER JOY that £215 of free cash-money would bring me today to slap on a credit card, I feel disgusted at myself... DISGUSTED...

Then I moved on... I forgave myself, cancelled the subscription, made a mental note that I was £8.99 a month closer to my goal and left the matter firmly in the past... Nothing is going to break my new mood these days... This is the new me...

...... "I'll just check... out of curiosity... "

To this moment, I have found no less than 11... yes... ELEVEN... monthly, quarterly or annual subscriptions on my various accounts that I no longer need... many of them I've not needed in years... the 'best' (if that word can possibly be used in this context) of them, was a 3 month old sub to a trade magazine that I no longer need since my redundancy... It has cost me £6 of unneccesary money... the WORST (more correct use of the lingo) is a 10 year old, and by that I mean, out of date, subscription to a society from an industry I worked in for 6 month, TEN YEARS AGO... at a rate of £36 p.a.

You could say I was concerned... You could say I was angry... Oh you get the point...

I'll just repeat it for you...

    Shame, thy pseudonym is PanickingHARD...

I have (over the ten years) apparently wasted at least £550 (give or take a few quid) on NOTHING... NOT A THING... FRESH AIR...

That is over half of the debt on my Citi Card...

If I didn't find it so funny, I could curl up in a ball and die... ;) ... Well, the old me could...

Moving on... Thats onto subscribing for those who've nodded off... Subscribing, you'll be delighted to note is a short affair altogether...

I have, this evening, subscribed to the following three notions...

    1) I am, unchecked, a moron

    2) The theory that my obsession has now been turned from being obsessed with "Stuff" to being obsessed with the VALUE OF "Stuff", thus saving me from notion 1) henseforth... and

    3) The Unneccesary Challenge... (Thank you CAFCGirl)...

    I march on, reinvigoralised!!!!! ;)

    World, hear me roar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh... and dragons roar... There's your dragon-fix satiated... Or you can take it from the fact that There are probably many, MANY dragons in the land of Warcraft...

:o:o (I promise I'll have a proper dragon story tomorrow... Scouts honour)...

    Nite all...

Sleep tight... OhMyWord... I've just found a new meaning in that phrase... Sleep TIGHT... as in with money... That'll be the title of my 2nd Self-Help book sorted then... WooHoo!!!!! (that's for you CAFCGirl, if you are reading... x )

Glad to hear you are so upbeat. I had your thread emailed to me but still couldn't resist a look this morning. Re your resolutions, don't stick to 4, the digressions may your thread very funny. Keep the dragons in as well, And don't forget just because people aren't posting it doesn't mean no one is reading. Keep positive and you will soon have defeated the Debt monster.
