Consultation & Proposed Redundancy

Hi all,
Today at work we was called into a meeting by department and was informed of some jobs will be at risk across the company. After the meeting myself and another person in my department was called in one by one and told that there is only one requirement for this position instead of the current two and there is a potential redundancy situation affecting myself and colleague.
We have another review in just under 2 weeks.
I have never been in this situation before so not sure what I need to do next

I am just going through the exact same thing for the first time! We got our union involved, they can't stop the action but they can ensure the process is followed fairly and correctly. Have you got a union for your employment? If not there is info on the ACAS site, try this link
From what I know, it is a 4 week process, first 2 weeks is for consultation - time to put ideas forward as a team to try and counteract the redundancy, and time to state your intentions or negotiate a voluntary redundancy. All of which hasn't worked so far in our team surprise surprise....obviously the time when you find that there actually IS an I in team!
Anyway, after that I believe you have a 2 week period for re-intervewing for your job and then the decisions are told at the end of that period, I think you have to be told a date for the end of the process. During this period, if you want to stay in your job it's dog eat dog, then if unsuccessful there may be re-deployment opportunities that you can take.
Whatever happens, the way I see it it is a lose-lose situation in our area, you are either left without a job, have to take something elsewhere int the company and take a pay cut or retain your post but have to pick up the work that the others did for the same pay you were on beforeHonorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. Are you being offered Voluntary Redundancy? If pooling two roles into one job then if neither want to take Voluntary Redundancy (this isn't necessarily an option) Then they can either go through an interview process, or put a matrix in place for the role that is left (Whoever best fits the matrix gets the role)
I'd imagine as Savvy states that you are currently within your consultation period. The rules regarding this differ as per the number of employees within you company.Debt Free since 2012Current Savings £1,400Current Mortgage £143,398.270 -
Would a job share of the role between the 2 of you be an option?
Even if it was the company can say no, but may be worth a try.
Are there any other suitable roles available within the company you could be considered for?
If you are in a Union speak to them.0
