My advice. If you've not already got a DivX compatible DVD player get one.

    £26.84 delivered

    http://svp.co.uk/products-solo.php?pid=2344

or this one at £27.20 delivered, which is a full length one like your sky box etc.

Use google checkout for your £10 off if you fancy one.

Then burn your video files as dvd data discs (You can get around 6 X 700 mb films on one disc taking less than an hour to burn in my experience) and watch them on your DivX player. Converting files with Nero to play as a DVD can literally take a couple of hours per film.

    Thats how i do it.

    Hope this helps.

Can you please explain (in layman's terms) what DivX is? If I record a DVD data disk, can I play that on a "normal" DVD player?
I have just got myself a DVD burner and software to transfer Digital tapes to the PC and then to DVD, hence the question.

Do you have a DVD burner, or CD burner, what type of files are they (what extension/how big), what are you going to do with the disk, play it in a DVD player?

do you have nero installed or anything similar?

What types of files are they? Do they end in .avi?

When you say copy to disc, what do you want to do with the disc afterwards. Just store it or play it on dvd player.

You will need to get hold of some burning software, as said nero is probably the best. But there are quite a few free programs out there too. If it is just storage or to play on divx machine then simply create a data dvd. But to create a playable dvd on normal player, it will need converting and the software should do that, but will take some time depending on your computer.

DivX is a video compression (like mpeg4), just like MP3 is a compressed audio file, and no you cant play it on a standard DVD player. You will need a DivX dvd player. Look for one with DivX on the front and means it can play this format. Can pick 1 up for about £30-£40
Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j

You haven't clarified the matter as to which kind of disc you would like to create.
DVD? CD? A disc with the ability to be played on a standard DVD player?

Assuming that you have a new laptop and that there is an internal DVD burner.....Download and install the ridiculously bloated trial version ofNero 7 and install it to you computer; http://www.nero.com/eng/Downloads.html

The software will take care of most of your conversion and disc burning needs.

Can you also post the brand and model no. of your laptop?

Which version of Nero do you have installed? Is it a trial version or did you purchase it?
