want to make a claim

I have just bought a new t v, 2 months old. an item was dropped on the floor and bounced onto the t.v, so now it damaged.

i want to claim on my house insurance, but i have already made two claims on 2 other t.v in the household over the last 3/4 years, what are the chances of my claim being refused.

I don't want to claim and ~All my household insurance being voided

any advice would be appreciated

refused/voided for what? as long as you have declared your previous claims & you have accidental cover they can't refuse your claim. remember you need to pay your excess before they pay out

He's worried the Insurers will not offer to renew his cover at renewal due to the frequency of his claims.

OP it's very likely the Insurers will not offer to renew the policy, this can make it very difficult to arrange insurance including motor. If you add into the mix the three tv claims the premiums will be ridiculous.

If it's a games controller that's hit the tv check the policy wording as some exclude this.

Check your policy to ensure there's no exclusion already on there for accidental damage and / or damage to televisions. If they did restrict this they should have made it very clear to you.

Expect this claim to be investigated by the Insurers so they can satisfy themselves it's a genuine claim

just thought they might void it because i have made so many claims. yes i'm still with the same company that i made the claims with

i think some companies look for any excuse for not paying out

    many thanks
  • The insurer may have a company they use to check that the damage is consistent with the damage described. They'll normally check if there was a wear and tear issue or if it has had any fault prior to the accident (as you have a fairly new tv this probably isn't applicable to you).

Some home insurers only accept new customers if they've had 2 or less claims in the last 3 or 5 years (depending on the criteria they use for claims history). Some insurers will still agree to offer a renewal to existing customer with more than 2 claims but most insurers have a limit on number of claims in a customers history before they decline.

On this basis, it may limit your options for seeking alternative insurance at your next renewal.

Also, renewal increase for number claims are normally on a curved graph. For example: 1 claim =10%, 2 claims =25% 3 claims = 60%. (percentages they use could be higher than this).

Another claim will affect renewals for next 3 to 5 years so consider your excess and how much it would cost to replace the TV yourself vs potential increase before contacting your insurer to make a claim.

Hi. I have had a fair bit of building work carried out on my house recently. Everything went fine apart from a problem with the bi-fold doors. The builder never installed them correctly and before he had fixed them, he went bust. We haven't heard from him since. I have a quote of £430 to get the doors fixed and was wanting to know if it is possible to claim for this through the buildings insurance? Any advice much appreciated.

You won't be insured against tradesmen going bust.

    Ok thanks.

What about claiming for a broken door through contents?

    Hi.

Does anyone know how I go about finding out who my builders insurance was with? He went bust and is now uncontactable but there is some outstanding work to be completed and paid for!

    Thanks

    A door isn't contents.

If it was broken because of poor workmanship, then that's not covered by your insurance either!

How did you pay the tradesman - you have a chance of a s75 claim if you paid by way of a loan/cc etc.
