pay as you go - Vodafone

Options
Hi to you all

Advice needed, I am in dispute with Vodafone. I have had a pay as you go phone for over 15years. And yes terms and conditions change and I am the first to admit that I skip through these.

However, I keep this phone for holidays abroad and emergency so I don't use it much.

I topped up with £30.00 last August as I was going on holiday to spain and then France later in the year BUT decided to use my other phone consequently I slipped into the phone not being used for 9months and was completley disconnected and lost my monies.

I accept that the terms and conditions must have changed but my gripe is why could they not send a text to say I was about to slip into being disconnected espc., when I had this amount of monies on the account.

They have asked me for proof of my balance and I forwarded a copy of my MBNA c/card statement showing the Vodafone Top Up and they say this is not proof??? And yet they say I have not used the phone during this time

How do you gain proof of a balance when you have been disconnected like this?

I think they are giving me the run around to be honest

any suggestions would be welcome espc., as to who I might refer this to

cheers

If you didn't use the phone for 9 months you wouldn't have been able to read the text anyway even if they sent you one.

As far as I'm aware it's always worked that you have to make a chargeable call or text every 6 months to keep a sim active I don't think anythings changed in that aspect for years

    - what I meant was that I think they should have sent me a Text waning me of the situation that I was slipping into.

It would not have cost them anything. As I say I understand the 6mnths and 9mths terms they quote but time passes so quickly and if you have a lot going on in your life - well I forgot. I just feel it is quite wrong for them to cut me off without an alert of some sort espec., when I had this amount of money on the account.

I don't think they will do that as many light users take their time 'to the wire' and make a call or top up a day or two before the six or nine month limit kicks in.

I'm sorry to say that I don't believe the T&C's have actually changed. Years ago when I had a Vodafone PAYG if you didn't make a call for six months you had three more months to top up, otherwise you lost your number and your balance.

I am not beefing about the disconnection and yes I know re the terms and conditions.

As I said prior why could they not send a warning text? Would that have been so hard? Does anyone in their right minds think I wanted to lose £30.00 don't you think I would have done something about it if I had realised.

Of couse I would - look all I am asking for on here is advice on how I might complain and refere this regardless of terms and condtions.

Sorry but I feel they should have warned me

Most, if not all, sims that haven't been used for over 6 months are going to be off.
There's therefore no point in sending them a text, it'll just sit on the message server until it expires, so you'll still never get it...
  • ok thanks everyone for replying - I appreciate it looks like I have lost my money and learnt the hard way.

But as I said earlier ...if you are not using your phone how are you going to get the text ...they could have sent you one but you wouldn't know.

As it's a Vodafone sim why not get an Ovivo one then it won't cost you anything apart from the initial £10 and then you can use the phone for free ;)
