Debit card fraud

Not certain but pretty sure this can't happen. Contactless requires the chip and to my knowledge they can't 'replicate' the chip in your card for this purpose.
Most card fraud is due to cloning of the magnetic strip and using online etc.0 -
The transactions were flagged by the bank and I received an automated phone call. I was suspicious, but the call was genuine. The transactions were to mobile phone companies and there was another (genuine) one to Parcel Force. They were all under £20.dalesrider wrote: »So who are these transactions to then?
Max on contactless is £20 per transaction.
More fraud is under £20 than over.
In 2 years I have only ever seen 2 cases of contactless fraud... And one of them was a stolen card...
I take it that the transactions were in authorisation stage when the bank contacted you and you meant that you were down £25 in available funds.
You cannot refund any transactions till they have debited as they may not debit.
If they are not showing on your statement then they have not debited your account. They will have gone onto the internal accounts after the card was stopped.
In such cases you would not be refunded as you had no debits on your account.
Far more likely your details were obtained from a retailer (they keep you FULL card details on their till rolls) than someone scanning a card.
TBH. If your card is stopped and you can't check your account till you get a new card. Then you need to be raising a complaint.
How do you not know that fraud had already debited your account.
Seems your bank are blocking you from access to check your account at the very time you need it most.
The merchant/transactions had been approved, according to the bank and there was one other that had been declined. The call centre said that the amounts would appear on my statement and would be refunded upon application. Could be (as usual) the call centre are reading from a sheet, which doesn't reflect reality! They were correct about the card block also blocking facilities. I tried both online and mobile app access and neither would work.
I agree, not being able to access an account just when you need to is a PITA. I will be complaining, but I suspect that they will say that I could still use phone banking or call into the local branch.0
