Help I've made a mistake...

Bought a new contract phone online via dial a phone and read as much small print as I could about cashbacks etc. have just tried to phone them to port my orange number across to O2 and firstly find out they don't have any useful customer services online, nor do they talk to you if you call sales.

I go online, log into my account (only available after you've bought a phone) gone through the FAQs and found out that you can't port Orange to o2 unless you do it via sales before placing an order..so I'm stuck.

I've obviously had the new phone out to have a look, so I can't return it as they say it must be completely unused, and I have a number on a dead Orange account and a new useless contract on O2 which doesn't match my business card.

Anyway round this?

Up until recently (approx Spring 2007) DAP did not facilitate any ports to O2. However, their stance has now changed and the following can be found in the 'Number Portability' section of their website help.
Whilst we support porting your number to the O2 network, it is the most difficult of the porting processes and therefore we recommend that you take a new mobile number from us.

Of course, if your mobile number is important to you, we will happily manage the porting experience for you. To start the ball rolling you will need to call us on 0800 1071685 - our opening hours are 7am to 1am. Please note however this must be before you place your order.

Regardless of the dealer you are using, the PAC must always be supplied at point of sale for O2 contracts. Because O2 ports require some effort by the dealer, many choose not to facilitate these or instead charge a small admin fee.

Unfortunately, I cannot offer any advice on how to cancel the O2 contract.

if you have not used your mobile to make calls the Peace of mind guarantee may still apply.

I'll PM you with my mobile number. If you call me tomorrow I'll try and dig out the contact details of a manager there - he may be able to help. The sensible option would be to allow you to return your phone then re order it but port the number before you place the order

Alternitively, have you tried calling O2 themselves? Don't call them from your phone but from a landline to protect the peace of mind guarantee.

In any case - you could contact vodafone and ask for a free PAYG sim card with your number ported across to it. Their number is 0808 0945945. At least you will then keep your phone number and you have the option of sticking it into another cheap phone to accept incoming calls only.

Alternitively, will Orange allow the number to go onto one of their PAYG sims? I know that Voda will allow you to transfer a number between contract and payg sims. This may save issues with having to unlock your phone.

    Thank you.

I did try o2 and DAP several times, O2 just said that they were struggling with DAP and could no longer help me at all..so in the end I had to give in and port the Orange number to a basic o2 PAYG simjust to 'cancel' the orange contract and use th enew DAP contract on a new number.

I'm not happy and certainly won't bother with DAP again as I hadn't realised they had no telephone support, however, I think I've done the best i can now in the circumstances.
