How does that explain how he'd know what the respective company's policy is? Also what if the company used Equifax anyway?

Employee credit checks are usually limited to publicly available data such as court judgments and insolvencies.

Credit account data is only available to lenders that share this data with each other through the CRAs. However, if the employer is a lender & data sharer then it can, with your permission, check your full credit history. Banks can therefore do this.

Mastercard is not a lender/data sharer so I suspect any employee credit check it carried out would be limited to public records. Hope that helps.

    Official Company Representative
I am an official company representative of Experian. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"

Stclair (not the OP) asked what information Experian provide to employers, that is all.

Given there is an Experian representative that seems a reasonable question.

I haven't seen representatives from the other agencies on here (they may be but I haven't seen them) - I'm sure they'd have been asked too if they are around.

I think you'll be fine, they'll be looking for insolvencies, ccj's and large defaults.
