I see, I wasn't sure what reverse accounting was. Yes I'd take the inspector's word over anything else!

I just follow the last order!
  • That's a bit misleading, becuase it's the same improved visibility you get from having top-rated-seller status. A bit naughty of eBay that.

To maintain your eBay Top-rated seller status, simply carry on providing the great service and good shopping experiences that your customers have come to expect – and you’ll continue to receive greater visibility in Best Match search results.

    ...

From autumn 2013, if your individual listings meet these new requirements, they’ll be eligible for the following benefits:
    • Improved visibility in Best Match search results.

It goes without saying that the TRS listing is the best choice (according to eBay) as it offers more than the TRS seller with a non-TRS listing and that eBay would seek to give those listings prime exposure.

From the same page: "Your account-level requirements will continue to be evaluated on the 20th of each month. You must meet these requirements in order for your listings to qualify for the listing-level requirements and associated benefits. "

There was a previous newsletter but I delete mine that spelled it out more clearly that top rated sellers wont loose their current visability.

That doesn't say that there isn't a difference between the benefits of being TRS and the benefits of having a TRS listing?

Time will tell but I'm very confident eBay will be putting what it sees as the best choice in front of the buyer and the TRS listing offers more than the non-TRS listing, all the requirements (except free P&P which is debatable) are positive for the customer in experiencing excellent service.

You shouldn't lose your 'current' visibility but you won't gain the 'improved' visibility.

Assuming you are set up correctly eBay deduct the (15%) VAT and then the FVF discount. If eBay aren't deducting the VAT on your invoices I don't think you can claim it back on your VAT returns.

If you are paying 12% FVF it's 10.43% after the VAT is removed and the 15% takes it down to 8.87% meaning you save £1.56 for every £100 worth of BIN by bending over to the new requirements but the FVF on the P&P element will eat into to that £1.56.

The discount is fine if it balances positively for you but is a small amount even if your turnover is high, the main advantage is the boost in search and possibly attracting those buyers actively seeking TRS sellers and picking them over standard sellers.

Well our FVF's are 10% and the VAT is excluded so our actual FVF's are 8.53% so we save around £1.27 per £100 so around £100 a month in fees and we already offer free P&P as our sector allows it so the new requirements aren't actually all that much more - it's only expedited delivery but we put that on around 3 months ago and have only had 4 people take us up on it!

Having recently had a VAT inspection I concur with this.

I was reverse accounting for the VAT in SAGE and was told by HMRC to ignore it completely. The VAT is paid at source on services in the EU B2B so doesn't factor in your VAT return.

OP, I am assuming you have set yourself up correctly on Ebay. They will add your VAT number and deduct the 15% VAT at source. So your invoice with not include VAT and there is none to reclaim.

    Correct.

Our invoices do not show VAT therefore we do not claim the VAT back so it just equals itself out by having lower FVF's.

And yes we are VAT registered on Amazon, thankfully, as we pay around £5-£6K a month to them in fees without the VAT.

If you put i day dispatch your asking for trouble.

I put 3 days , but send next day - and all my buyers are over the moon that it arrives earlier than expected.

I have 2 days, but as Marie-so says, the issue is eBay's new TRS rules. I have resisted changes so far but may have to go there :/
