sim only with a tablet?
Im in the market for a new contract as my current one with t-mobile comes to an end at the end of July. Ive outstayed my welcome on loyalty discounts and am set to face a hike from £7.50 base price to the standard £20-and thats without a new phone.
I tried to take advantage of early upgrade earlier this year. I chose a new phone as my old ones touch sensitivity was ridiculous, but it was only when it arrived that I realised none of my loyalty discounts were valid.
I returned the phone and had my loyalty discounts reinstated, and my husband bought me a new phone outright.
Im happy with what I have now so I dont want a new phone, but my contract is still near its end.
I dont use a lot of minutes or even texts, but I do use Whattsapp a lot, so I need a fair amount of data (I currently have an unlimited bundle so I cant even say exactly how much I do use)
Ive been looking at the deals that come with a tablet, and would really like one of them. I have a BB Playbook, but it doesnt work well with Pinterest (which I use a lot).
What would my chances be of getting a sim only with the tablet? And where would I start looking?

I'm a bit confused - at first I thought you were asking about a sim only deal that you could use in a tablet you already have.
But reading on it suggests you want a sim only deal where they give you a tablet.
Sim only means just that. You get a sim. Only a sim. You don't get anything else.
Can you clarify what exactly you want?0 -
I didn't thinks Whatsapp was data that data hungry, if you are at home connect to your home wifi, does your work have wifi to connect to?
Have you looked at the Ovivo Freedom plan at £0 per month which gives you 150mins, 200 texts and 500mb. Once that is used up calls are 8p per minute and texts 5p each on a PAYG arrangement.
Download a 3G/GPRS app which can monitor and even switch off data when you reach your limit. If you are on Android you can see what apps are using how much data.0 -
If you after a new tablet, have a look on Asus fonepad. Basically it is a 7" tablet, with phone function. So you are not restrict to phone only sim deal. BTW wit what apps, I believe you need to have a phone number to use that. I found that I can use it with my phone, but not on wifi tablet.0

Thank you so much for all your responses, I guess Ill have to go back to the drawing board.
A number of service providers are offering a contract, with a phone and a tablet thrown in. I would like to get a new tablet as I am using a playbook, which is rather restrictive. But I dont *need* a new phone because after an upgrade mix up, I sent back my new upgrade phone and got a new one outright from Amazon. So I was wondering if I might find a new contract, where I can get the tablet but do not have to get a new phone. Your point about it being SIM only makes alot of sense. Sorry, I didnt think of it that way before I posted. Can you clarify what exactly you want?From_St_Neots wrote: »I didn't thinks Whatsapp was data that data hungry, if you are at home connect to your home wifi, does your work have wifi to connect to?

I do connect to wifi when I am home, but Im a stay at home mum and so I spend a lot of time out and about with the children for playgroups and such. Thank you for the recommendation to Ovivo. I'll look into that, as well as the monitoring apps.If you after a new tablet, have a look on Asus fonepad. Basically it is a 7" tablet, with phone function. Thank you for that, the Asus sounds familiar but I havent looked at it myself (maybe hubby has). I dont plan to try to use whattsapp without the phone though.I do have a phone at the moment, which I plan to use with a new sim.0 -
T mobile do good sims on eBay for £23.
A years free data (500mb a month).
Then you just bin it at the end of the year.
You need to remember to stick it in a phone after 6 months though.0 -
I get it now.
Most of the networks will do a tablet only contract, eg Three:

The Ovivo option mentioned before is good if you can keep to under 500Mb a month and dont mind the adverts. And it means you can just buy whatever tablet you fancy. I have that in my second tablet.
Giffgaff do a sort of contract-like payg offer where you get 3gb a month for £12.50, 1Gb a month for £7.50. If you want calls and texts on top of that they're pay as you go, or £10 for 500 minutes, 1Gb, unlimited texts. Again, it's PAYG so buy the tablet sim free.0
