Just spoken to Sky about moving to their BB & phone. The guy I spoke to said their router used the latest wireless N technology.
I'm a bit lost with all this "N" stuff so maybe someone here would be so kind to help me .... please be gentle as I'm not really techie
I remember when I got my last router it said something about 802.11b and 802.11g in the instructions and I checked this against my laptop manual which said the same - and I was able to connect to the internet no problems. Now Sky are saying something about wireless n, does that mean my Mums old laptop wont be able to connect to it wirelessly as the manual only states 802.11b and 802.11g?
Thanks for your help.

n is simply the next step and allows faster wifi speeds
only if your hardware in N compatible
otherwise its backwards compatible with the older specs like B & G0 -
The sky router does not have a good wifi range unless you pay $ky another £30 odd pounds for a better one.0

New customers would get the newest version of their router, free.
You only have to pay for a new router if you've still got one of their older ones.0 -
Thanks for your replies. As long as its backwards compatable im happy - or should I say my Mum will be happy so she can continue to use the internet when she spends the day at ours.0

I have the Sky SR101 hub and its the best router Sky have offered after the previous Netgear and Sagem ones, and as others have said its backwards compatible.
Its a bit chunky but does not need a mains brick. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Thanks. Looks pretty neat, nothing like the original BT home hub I had - that was huge.
I'm getting quite excited about it now. Just hope Sky don't let me down!0 -
Hi - neighbour is getting a new Sky router (as above, free on 12month contract) because wireless connections are terrible (with the sagem). Will this improve the wireless range?
If not, can I set the new Sky router to "gateway mode" and plug a decent wireless (non-modem) router into it?If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0
