I think if I were in your shoes Murphy, this'd be my plan.
1. Apply for another 'good' card, if it comes in time that's great, if not then just keep for next trip.
2. Also, apply to Santander for a credit limit increase, (even if it takes them 3 weeks to approve it)
3. If one or the over of those fails, either do an online payment or arrange a payment to the Santander card to take place a few days into your trip (allowing enough time for a few transactions to have gone through so as not to put the account into a positive balance)2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

point 3 is so obvious that I missed it (d'oh).
Once I've finished my rugby coaching homework I'll get the Clarity application in (I wrote to SZ yesterday)
Clarity Card applied for, so lets see if it comes in time !0 -
Been to US west coast three times in last 2 years, the car companies don't actually put anything on your card at the beginning of the rental, it's only there if you rack up any charges after the rental has finished, so pre-pay everything & or return with full gas tank & no damage , your card won't even be touched.
P.S. be very wary of Dollar at LAX they do like to add crap to your rental, read everything put before you or are asked to initial or sign on pick-up, don't fall for the extra super duper breakdown cover, it's not required, they tend to tell porkies for the commission that breakdown is not included, it is, regular scam for the unwary!0 -

Thanks for your response, which has just crossed with this reply from Alamo
"Dear Mr Cat
Thank you for your email.
The amount for the security deposit is determined by the rental location, but it's usually 20% of the cost of the rental. Once the rental is returned, you will be refunded back the deposit and depending on your financial institution is when you will see the money in your account. "
So there we have it, from the horses mouth . In my case, thats about $200ish that they'll be reserving on my CC0 -

I'd print that off and take it with me and double check the amount they reserve, but then I'm naturally cynical
I wonder why the information on their website contradicts what they've told you?:think:2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

plus, its hardly definitive, is it ? 'determined by rental location and is usually 20% ?
on t'other hand, the nice people from Halifax have said yes to my Clarity card, so that should be with me sooner rather than later.0 -

(I'm rarely disappointed)
