Americanisms...is it just me that finds them irritating?

It's not a big deal and I should probably just 'get a life and get over it' and I know that there are far more important things in the world to worry about but this is something that is really starting to irritate.

Americanisms (there might be a better word for it, but that's what I call them'. This habit of adopting American words and labels. I was watching Cbeebies this morning and the presenter is talking about ladybugs. When did ladybirds become ladybugs? Yesterday it was 'cookies and strollers' instead of 'biscuits and buggies'. I asked for ice lollies in Sainsbury's and the assistant told me where I could find the 'popsicles'
Am I the only one who finds it annoying?

Not really, but then again I love America! I've got a habit of calling pavements, sidewalks instead, it's just the first word that pops into my head! :rotfl:
I sometimes also call ladybirds ladybugs too! :eek:0

I do. Slightly different, but I hate 'trick or treating' and baby showers as well!0

It's not just you. I hate "do the math" or hearing a customer in a coffee shop asking "can I get...?" plus I'm sure that I will think of plenty more later! 0 0

 Oh the irony!
I remember when we had pushchairs... before that awful Americanism 'buggy' was adopted.0

No, not just you OP. I loathe the word 'burglarized' (sp?). - what's wrong with burgled?Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j
If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!0

Dislike it too.. Along with American spellings of words such as 'color' instead of 'colour'.
Also, in the UK it's 'mum' not 'mom' except for very small regional variations.
... Finally, the 'gangsta' use and mis-use is cringeworthy - 'Feds' instead of 'police' as an example.:hello:0

Yeh, it bothers me too, although I didn't know that 'can I get' was an Americanism and I say it all the time!0

It's the American spelling of replacing an 's' with a 'z' in words that get me.
Although I am guilty of calling a 'z' a zee not a zed Always have, always will. The one I loathe more than anything is MOM - when I see it in posts, I can feel the twitch!"This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0

It really annoys me when my OH says trash or sidewalk. I always ask him what country we live in when he says American words.0
