What is the company car situation, is the company yours? I would have thought it quite unusual for company car insurance to cover driving by the employees family and friends, so perhaps this is different to what we would normally think of as a company car.

It wont be delayed and how can the delay help identify the driver?
If they send the s172 back saying they are not sure, the next thing they will get is a court summons within the next 6 months.
The offence will be failing to name the driver and you need to prove you have used reasonable diligence to try and find out. Saying you cant remember will not do.

His insurance is not going to skyrocket with 3 points. But it will for 6 points and a S172 charge.

Exactly, and by requested more information/evidence of the offence. He could prove due diligence in attempting to identify the driver. and getting extra time to see if anyone will own up to the offence.

I agree with you completely, which is why he needs to prove, by requesting this. to avoid the s.172

He has already been given an extra 7 days which they don't normally do.
If he fails to supply the driver information this time, the next he will hear will be a summons to court.
The bar for proving due diligence is set very high and the success rate for a not guilty is very low. Otherwise everyone would just say they could not remember.

The Op is setting himself up for a slam dunk 6 points and £500+ fine.

I wasn't saying use 'i dont remember as a defence', i meant try to stall the charge, whilst he asks friends/family if anyone did this.

But I must've misread the inital post, as i thought this was the first contact.

The NIP was 15th May. The supply of (inconclusive) evidence is recent, so SECOND contact.

When I had company cars, any family member over 25 with the appropriate licence was covered to drive them. Just as well really, as my dad wrote one of them off.
