Hi, decided to delay the NPB and instead I contacted him and asked if he still wanted the item, he said yes and would pay shortly. Today he's asking to pay by Bank Transfer. Never received payment by that method before, is it safe? He buys and sells on Ebay but I'm assuming he currently has some Paypal problem, he hasn't given me any kind of explanation for the payment delay.
It is safe as long as you check out that payment into your account shows as a bank transfer (clever potential scam being discussed on the Power seller board at moment where a cheque paid in showed up as a fully credited payment ).
Buyer will need your sort code and bank account number.

You appear confused as to what seller protection actually is, what additional protection do you really think you have if buyer uses paypal?

As soolin says, BT is absolutely fine, but do check with your bank that the buyer didn't pay by cheque into your account, which then is subject to clearing. The PS board has a very strong reminder of checking, the seller is set to lose £1k by being convinced the payment had cleared.0
