Sky BB installation

Hopefully a fairly simple question (although Sky Advisors through webChat were no use):
We're looking at signing up for a Sky bundle of TV, phone and BB. The BB router obviously needs to connect to your main 'BT socket'.
Assuming these are going to be in different rooms, would an installation engineer be happy to run the line/cable between them externally or would they insist on trailing them through the house?
Also, whilst there is a 'BT socket', it isn't active. Is there an additional charge to activate the phone line?

They wouldn't run them externally.
I think you can buy something now that you don't need wires with anyway.
Why not just give Sky a ring...make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Broadband is a self install. You don't need a home visit for your line to be activated.
As above phone Sky tomorrow when they have upgraded their telephone system and ask.That gum you like is coming back in style.0
