Forced to renew Driving License?

  • The real reason it's every 10 years is because that's what the EU Directive on Driving Licences says, which came into force in January this year.

All newly-issued licences across the EU are in a standard format. All old-style licences (such as 'old paper licences') stop being valid on 19th January 2033, regardless of if the date on your current paper licences says later. The UK Government may decide to withdraw them earlier than that, though.

Some countries have secured a concession on the 10-year photo validity rule, extending it to 15 years. Has the UK adopted the 15 year validity instead? Of course not.

£20 every 10 years is irresistible or the threat of a £1k fine is just too good to miss.

I've yet to hear of anyone actually been fine for failing to update the photo, however.

In that particular case the police seem to have prosecuted someone for the wrong offence, but they could just as easily prosecute for the correct offence and yes, people have been prosecuted as a result of not updating their photocards.

Writing in a public forum, stating you intend/have broken the law is surely potential purjury?

And any posts used in a subseqent trial would be used in evidence, and anyone that replies could be called to give evidence.

Look at the people that have misused Twitter or FB. Sent to jail.

    So be careful peeps!

So by you logic, if you in through a speed camera the police have 14 days to send a nip from the date of conviction.

Not at all, they send you a fine, which you can contest in court. If you choose to pay, you are pleading guilty to the offence, and hence an offence has been commited and recorded against you

No, they send a nip and it must arrive within 14 days of the offence being committed.

If you are convicted what is the offence date?

The day you speed and not the day of the court date as you are not at the offence location are you?

Correct, but you can dispute that the offence took place, by taking it to court!

Yes the date f the offence would be when it took place, but the date it appers on your record is the court date!

Until the court date, there is no offence on your record, so it doesnt exist!

This is simple, you're just being stubborn

You're the only one hung up on convictions and records.
