Cable TV in another room for free?

I have Virgin media in the lounge and want it in the bedroom for free.

I have a coaxial cable running between the 2 rooms and have been told I can send the signal using that.

I fitted a female/female adaptor to the back of the box in the lounge, run the cable from there to the back of the TV in the bedroom, tuned it in and got a picture, sucess... or so I thought, the picture is there and great however there is no sound :-(

Does anyone know what I have done wrong or what I need to do to get sound aswell as the picture? I would be very grateful for any help.

I know this way of doing it means that I would have to go to the lounge to change channels. but I do have the terrestrial TV in the bedroom and now 1 cable too :-) at a time so I will be happy with that... if I can get the sound :-)

Do you get sound if you plug that output into the tv in the lounge? If you do, the bedroom tv may not be correctly tuned.

Hmm, good question, I will have to find a short cable to give that a go as the long one is buried going into the bedroom.

I did try to tune it in a few times but it v=never had sound even after fine tuning.
  • basically the signal is too weak to supply both TVs as the signal coming in is tuned for one box to supply one tv only.
you need either a video sender device which re-amplifies the signal or another Cable box with card.
    neither of them are free.

if you use a video sender, you'll have to watch the same channel on both TVs, if you have 2 boxes, you can watch different channels.

hows about you cough up the money for an extra box and stop being so cheap.
you pay virgin for the subscription for one box to one tv, if you want more, you gotta PAY.
same as the rest of us.

I work in a PC shop and it annoys me that people keep asking me if its possible to get 'some sorta adapter or splitter' to split their cable tv or internet signal, without using a router or renting another cable box.
if it was, dya think i'd be selling routers?
dya not think virgin would offer the service already?

i know this is MSE forum but this is trying to avoid paying extra for an extra service.
ring virgin and try to get a deal. I got my 2nd cable box for £9.50 a month
invest in a digi-sender unit and you'll have to watch whatever channel the main box is on at the time on both tvs.
you're asking to be able to get for free what other have to pay for.

oh and incase you might think about getting a dodgy box off someone, don't.
you'll get found out. someone i know has just been fined £40,000 from Virgin for the supply of dodgy cable boxes and they were able to trace all 27 of the people he had sold them to, and they're next on the prosecution list.

do yerself a favour and dip yer hand in yer pocket for the extra service the proper way.

hope ya don't think i'm having a go but its really annoying that i'm paying for a service that you wanna try to get for nowt.

My Virgin (NTL) box has two scart outputs. One goes to my hard disk/DVD recorder and that feeds direct to the TV. The other scart goes to my VHS recorder, then the R/F output feeds a Labgear TV amplifier. This splits two ways and feeds both my bedroom TV and my kitchen TV. By tuning in the two TVs to the VHS channel I can watch either cable or a VHS tape in the other two rooms, and hear the sound too. Hope this helps.
  • either way it cant be done for 'free'.

If the RF output signal is too weak then you won't get a picture, OP states picture OK but no sound, this does not make sense. Anyway, if SCART is being used for the main set, the RF output is only being used to feed one set and that should usually work fine unless there is an issue with the sound carrier frequency or the tuning is off..

  • i didnt lie about the guy getting fined £40,000 from virgin for the supply and sale of flashed dboxes.
he used to be my boss.... he was given a 12 month suspended sentence and 250 hours community service.
it was in south shields and the surrounding local papers.

flashing a dbox is against the law.
    so is supplying them.

a pedantic moron i may be.
but i don't lie about my former boss.

    pot, kettle.......
  • OK after doing a bit more research on this it does seem possible but it seems to be a bit of a minefield depending on how your TV signal is split, interference from other signals etc.
So best of luck with it. I admit I was wrong to have a bit of a rant and I apologise. folks over on https://www.cableforum.co.uk can help more I reckon.
Yes I do work in a PC shop, didnt say what job I do, but mascherano assumed I was on a minimum wage and jumped to some conclusions about me, same as I did about the original post.

Again apologies for my misunderstanding, I'm too old for web-wars with folk i don't know.

oh and to prove I wasnt lying

All you do then is flash ur box or but a new card for about a tenner. No one under British Law would get fined 40K for supplying boxes either. Admit you lied.

Buying a Dbox and flashing it to recieve channels for free is against the law.
Sorry fella but I've had to report you to the mods for condoning this.
