Can my son get a better deal?

As a family we've done well out of free phones through the cashback schemes over the last couple of years. However, my son has just managed to make an invalid claim on his first (4 month) claim to themobileoutlet. Is there any way he can get out of paying the full year's rental, e.g. can he ask them for a cheaper tariff? He's a student and we don't want to have to bail him out!

You can usually lower the tarriff half way through the contract (9th month 18 month contract, 6th month 12 month contract)0
