It may help if you define what you want, Portable charger could be anything form a USB lead, through main chargers, to world chargers to battery powered power banks.
I suspect you were looking at the mophie Juice Pack Powerstation PRO, that can output for iPhone and iPad, so you need both, (the iPad needs a higher charging ampage) or just and iPhone.
How many charges do you need, the morphies is 6000mAh, which as the iPhones battery is 1500Mah more or less means you could get 4 full chargers out of this.
You can get cheaper ones, but they'll only maybe do one full charge of the phone, so hence you need to say what you are looking for before you can really get any option of other devices.
Apples prices are high but they sell the better quality devices and you get a decent service. You an buy cheaper from China, but aftersales backup may be hit and miss.0 -
Looking for charger that I can charge my phone when out and about when I can't get access to a plug.0

I paid £19.50 for one - bought it from an auction site. Charges anything tha uses a USB lead. It can recharge my iPhone 8 times before needing to be topped up.0

I am not sure what you found that cost £90, I have a spare genuine Apple plug top USB charger (as supplied with an iPhone 5) and a genuine Apple Lightning to USB 1 metre cable, these cost £12.90 for the charger and £11.99 for the cable from eBay suppliers. Can anyone recommend a decent iphone 5 portable charger? Apple want £90, not paying that!
I also have a cheaper cable that I use with a USB cigarette socket charger, and it's very slow to charge compared to the genuine Apple cable. So I wouldn't buy "cheap" cables!
It looks like you should be able to get the real thing for about £25 delivered if you look carefully.0 -
It is not a USB cable I am looking for, do not want anything with a cable whatsoever. I had a charger that fits into the charging link at the bottom of the phone for my iPhone 4. You charge it up before you use it, take it with u and connect to the phone when it needs more charge. I am looking for the same thing for an iPhone 5, apple do one but its £90.0

Coming back to my prior point that is a 1900MaH charger, the iPhone 5 has a 1440Mah battery, you will get 1 1/3 full charges out of this.
Topping up it will last more than that though.
Apples charger is 6000Mah, it it would get you 4 1/5th charges out of it.
At least compare like to like - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LCD-Smart-Universal-External-Battery-for-Iphone-5-4s-samsung-s4-6000mAh-Uk-/390600681079?pt=UK_MobilePhones_MobilePhoneAccessories_MobilePhoneChargers&hash=item5af19d6677
There are all sorts of risks in using cheap generic battery packs always watch it carefully in use, and throw it away at the first sign on damage.
Damaged Lipo's can go up in flames -Its an extreme case but see this youtube video of what happens if you overcharge them too much

You may think it won't happen to you, but look at Boeing and the grounded 777's Always take care when you use Lithium batteries from no name brands where you are not sure of the quality control.0 -
Mine was a 5000MaH device and shipped from HK. It is bigger than most, but gives me all the power I need for a full week before a recharge. Avoid those that plug directly into the iPhone, as these put great strain on the connectors.0
