Can they use it to track?

Options
Im thinking about getting a credit score with one of the free trials.

But can debters use this to track me?

Years ago I refused to pay a "debt" after a bank changed my account without warning and landed me with lots of charges. They admitted to the change and that it was without warning but refused to do anything about the charges, so I refused to pay.

So, if I was to do a credit check, what would be the likely implications?

How many years ago? If 6 years or more (England/Wales, 5 in Scotland) then the debt is statute barred, which means it's unenforceable.

    Probably about 12 years lol.

Im just a big scaredy cat I think.

But, out of curiosity, can they track you through it?

    Creditors. You mean creditors. ;)

Google "GAIN" (Gone Away Information Network).

hello I wondered about this also. If you apply to see your credit file do you need to give your present address and will they share it with your creditors. I believe that after 6 yrs you cannot be pursued via the courts unless there are ccjs - but like i said will the credit ref. agencies share your address with others.

Yes, you need to give a full address history including a current address.

You would link your new address to your previous history, and as such member of GAIN or subscribers to services such as
Autotrace Plus - Experian would be updated with the new one. Or creditors would see the new one when next doing a search on your previous details.

just a thought. if u want to see your credit file and dont want to be traced could you give a false present address. how would the reference agencies know that you are doing so.

So what happens when they send the report or pin to a different address?

When the OP tries to use the online trial none of the account data will appear as it had a different address to the accounts that they hold.

Besides, your suggestion is a staggeringly bad idea for fraud reasons alone.

Oh and to the OP - you don't have a credit score so please don't be conned into believing anything in an "Experian credit score" or "Equifax credit score"

Yes they will catch up with you no matter what.

If you put your current address down to get your credit file then creditors can get this information. I'd put a fake telephone number in though 01234 567890 for example.

I updated my credit files with my current address, a week later the letters started. They couldn't use the phone cos I didn't use my real telephone number.

It's a well known fact CRA's share your info with anyone willing to pay for it.

I wouldn't worry though because your current address will be on the electoral role anyway and they can get it from there.
