ParkingEye charge for understaying

- Visiting relatives at Xmas, first visit to local Aldi, carpark prominently signed at entrance as “90 minutes, free for customers”. Found a space easily as only 75% full. Went to bank, chemist, etc, then shopped in Aldi. Used a handbasket, groceries went straight in my carrier at the checkout. Paid cash and left, much earlier than 90 mins. Didn’t see any special notices in place in store.
- Returned a few days later with a longer shopping list, so used a trolley. On the way to the bagging area, noticed a placard on the floor, next to the tills, with a message about entering reg. At the bagging shelf, saw some keypads for the first time. Entered reg, and left. Looked in carpark for signage about terms, could see only very small hard-to-read signs placed high up round the perimeter, in the centre of alternate bays.
- Two weeks later, RK spouse receives PE demand of £70 for visit 1. Seemed to be issued in error, as it claims the stay of less than an hour exceeded the allowed time (90 mins).
- Followed advice on this forum to ignore.
- Another PE demand in Feb, stating Popla appeal no longer available. Still followed your advice.
- In June, a fresh letter, threatening court proceedings if demand not met in 14 days.
- On this forum, now find advice taken earlier this year no longer valid.
- Paid cash on visit 1, do not habitually keep receipts for a few groceries, so no record (used VISA for visit 2). I stayed nowhere near the maximum time, was a bona fide customer, and saw no special signage on visit 1. Why would I even think to look for it, when the major supermarket over the road has a two hour limit and no charges or special requirements – exactly the same as my hometown Aldi.
- What next? If my spouse replies naming me as the driver, does that restart the chain, enabling a Popla appeal?

I think that if your spouse did name you it would start the thing over again and then you can do a soft appeal, to be rejected by PE, followed by the POPLA appeal. The latter with help from others here, more knowledgable than I, will prove effective and get rid of PE's fake ticket scam.Got a ticket from ParkingEye? What exactly is the "crime" they have accused you of on the NTK?
Not sure I am 100% clear from your post. Failure to enter registration on a pad inside the store????0 -
