Youre talking nonsense. If a one armed man walked in should I where a blindfold beforehand?

    Sorry, who's talking nonsense?

I hope you're not discriminating against those people that can't spell, or else that would be very hypocritical of you. :p

I have been responsible for running a business in the private sector. I have also worked in the public sector. So it's not that obvious is it?

You clearly don't treat your staff (or at least prospective staff) fairly, based on what you've said in this thread.

Just because someone is married/black/gay/disabled/etc does NOT mean they are also "weak" or "useless".

Not your own business though. therein lies the difference you see. You never know if you keep applying yourself you may get there one day. If you ever need any advice drop me a pm.

I can't see why the friend thinks that mentioning her child would indicate that she was suitable for the role.

If I was the interviewer it would prejudice me against her, as I'd think she was one of one women who was obsessed with her child, and had no other subject of conversation - it's boring when people bang on about their kids the whole time, and it's a pain working with them.

Me neither. She's always been a little bit bonkers in the nicest way, but this even surprised me! She 'wants to them to know about her child and she's not going to hide it'. I managed to stop myself from saying 'it's a job interview, not a date'. She also thinks that having a child makes her look 'normal'. I said she didn't have to hide it, but I wouldn't mention it as I thought it was completely irrelevant.

How I got my new job without having a child, I have no idea *rollseyes*

From what I know about her workplace it is very casual, very unprofessional with little or no deadlines/targets/performance reviews. I honestly think she's going to have a massive shock when she leaves.

absolutely not, that would be wrong, but the fewer women the better. One week every month theyre in a good mood as god got most of your periods reversed and then you might decide to have a few kids and expect me to keep your job open answering the phone!! thankfully the retraining isnt that challenging x

    :rotfl:

If I ever find myself in need of a case study in poor recruitment practice then you will certainly be the first person I consider contacting.

In answer to my earlier question (bored school kid or troll), I've come to the conclusion you're the latter, therefore I'm out.

    Goodnight

I wasn't asked about my personal situation either, nor did I volunteer it. Totally irrelevant, you have to believe the potential employee when they say the hours of work suit, that they have some flexibility etc. Once they are in and that doesn't seem to be the case, well you now have 2 years to decide whether they are to be relied upon in your business or not.

Obviously you would like to get the right person first but you can, if you are a good interviewer, glean lots of info without actually asking outright. People love to talk about themselves.

Not that simple, childcare issues do fall into a bit of a grey area regarding gender discrimination.
