Just had a text to tell me that my original Virgin mobile PAYG tariff is going to change.

The orig PAYG tariff has one price for first 5min then another for the rest of the day. They call it Flex tariff now.

VirginMob to VirginMob currently 21p/min then free
VirginMob to VirginMob changes to 25p/min then 1p/min

VirginMOb to Landline currently 21p/min then 5p/min
VirginMOb to Landline changes to 25p/min then 1p/min

VirginMob to Other Mobile currently 41p/min No Change.

VirginMob to VirginMob TXT currently 3p/txt
VirginMob to VirginMob TXT changes to 10p/txt
VirginMob to othermobile TXT currently 12p/txt No Change

Voicemail retrieve free and No Change

So mostly a price rise for me of 20% (4p increase on 21p) and of course a massive % increase on the after 5mins to Virgin>Virgin which were free but soon will cost 1p a min.

Time to look around and consider changing from my old tariff. Off to look at giffgaff on the O2 network for payg. Not so many pure payg tariffs around now suitable for light users.

Other than Ovivo for free 150 min, 200 text and 500MB data?

Or White Mobile 6p mobile, 3p landline, 5p text?

Plenty of better alternatives to GiffGaff.

  • There are four of us and we have been on the original Flex plan for over ten years now. We generally use our mobiles to text Virgin to Virgin and the 3p rate was fantastic.

However, the hike to 10p Virgin to Virgin is excessive (where ten texts used to cost 30p it's now £1  ).

So a quick look around the web gave me the new Three tariff - the 321 payg. This is so cheap: 3p calls to any network/landline (01) numbers, 2p texts any network and 1p per mb data.

I rang Virgin to get my PAC code, told them I was a longstanding customer and was leaving on principle, unless they could offer something else, and they didn't give a hoot! Instead, they tried to sell me an even more expensive (for our usage) contract deal. Also, Virgin didn't bother to inform one of us about the rise, so if it hadn't been for the rest of us, she would have used the mobile as normal and then wondered why her credit was gone.

Now, I know that prices rise, but this seems to be a bit excessive. So I am now a Three customer and we shall they are.

You should try reading the OP before posting, the OP is telling their story of moving to Three, your post is pretty irrelevant.
I can't see any mention of three in the OP. All I see is two helpful people pointing out the alternative three tarriff

The OP as in the original post today (and not the post from a month ago) that he is replying to.

Really? Where ? Thanks for trying to berate me again as always, ANOTHER report to file on your behaviour... I am assured the MSE team are getting sick to the back teeth of your unwarranted attitude and deleting your posts.

Even using your unusual definition of OP, he tried to be helpful by posting the URL. Whereas your post just comes across as mean.
