Actually it's probably worth less. Sentiment has changed with rising interest rates and a growing intolerance of high property values. The headlines have turned from "house prices up" to "house prices cooling". Just today in the paper the headline was "mortgage approvals at 12 year low". Read between the lines!0 -

It will take 6 months to 2 years for the full effects to become apparent
But yes, the bubble is deflating.0 -

I have also noticed that the media are now putting out particularly bearish stories on the housing market.
It's my belief that these stories are an attempt to talk the BOE out of further rate rises.
A year ago the same data was getting "Housing market is still booming" stories.
I tend to look at the data and make my own assessment. I'm not willing to listen to journalists who think they can control the market.
Maybe they should declare how many buy to lets they have at the bottom of each article they write.0 -

Surely the rise of DINKIES (double income no kids) is the key social change which has driven the housing market to new levels?
i think you will find your logic is flawed.
a few things that have changed:
highest ever divorce rates- divorced couples live in seperate houses
the rise of 'buy to let'- people thinking ''i can make a quick couple of quid- then discovering its not so easy''
a population thats growing older, living longer than ever before
you can't blame people without kids for everything you knowthings arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then

I tend to think the key social change is people are now living alone instead of as married couples (DINKIES or not) plus the fact that just to keep up with current "legal" immigration 200 new houses a day need to be built just to keep up."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."
