Charging for calling answerphone?

I recently moved from a proper contract with orange onto a sim-only one for 12 months. Now I find I'm being charged for calling my answerphone, which I never was before.

So I call orange, their response? 'Oh that's standard on that contract, we can disable your answerphone for you'.

 I checked my paperwork, there is NOTHING to say this isn't now included, and no one mentioned it when I was organising my upgrade. Official complaint time?

Surely changing from a monthly contract to a sim-only is, essentially, a completely new contract. I see no reason why every difference should be highlighted - this is not really a change to an existing contract.

It's actually listed quite prominently on page 13 of the Sim only leaflet.

I did it all over the phone and it was never explained then :(

When I received confirmation of the contract in the post, it lists all call charges, but doesn't say which are included in my contract and which aren't.

It has nothing to do with your contact - and on PAYG, you do not have one. Just a Price List, in it, VM is charged but you ave the ability to turn it off, which they offered to do for you.

As you are not comparing like with like, I'm confused as to why you think they should have 'told' you - the literature does explain the costs, but more pertinent.... Did you ask?

They also send out a welcome pack when you upgrade detailing your plan. And the one I have for my son's sim only states what is and isn't included.

Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Not on all plans, which is why OP is being charged.

I'm on an Orange Panther sim only deal which charges around 40p for voicemail retrieval which could be what the original poster of this message is on.

I also use Hullomail and it is vastly superior to what Orange offer (and free). I would use it even if my voicemail on Orange was free of charge.

I highly recommend the app as it has so much flexibility in terms of listening, playback etc including a slider facility which lets you wind back the message a few seconds should you miss what is being said rather than have to replay in full.

Ditch Orange voicemail (assuming you have a smartphone)
