For free printable boardgames try googling cheapass games, they are an indie publisher with lots of free games (well, they ask for a donation but the games are worth much more then the 1$ suggested, even considering the printing expenses). ;)
If you can find a BG group near you, they often run exchange auctions and you can take home some good game with very little money, and spend an enjoyable afternoon, last year I attended one in Stockport and come back home with a boot full of games (around 20, I think) for little less then 40£.

Board games? I believe they are deprecated in favour of the video game.

My son (13) has an xBox360, a PS3 and a PS Vita but he still loves playing Cluedo, Stratego, Munchkin, Carcassonne, Chess, Go and Shogi with his old man.

Board gaming is very popular. The London club I'm involved with meets 4 nights a week with 50+ at each evening and then Sat and Sun too!!

I'm another one who likes board games, and I'm struggling to find people to enjoy them with. There aren't any groups near me, and my friends are more interested in other things. So I only get to play a couple of times a year.

I dug out an old box from my parents cupboard that had Hero Quest in it. I'd never heard of it before but I've spent a good few hours playing it, nice bit of fun, in the age of PCs and consoles I don't play enough board games.

I struggle to find people to play with, but I like: Cluedo, QI, Monopoly, Chess (Don't really like Checkers all that much), I often see board games at a good price but, considering I rarely have anyone to play with, getting them seems a little pointless.
EDIT: I also play others, but those are the main ones because most people either know, or can understand the rules in the first 5 minutes.
