So is just for video games or can we talk about board games here as well?

Sure!!! I play Risk at http://www.strategygamenetwork.com

Hadn't played for 30 odd years but started playing online a year ago. You can play a 5 minute timer or a 24 hour timer. A 5 minute timer game with 4 people takes maybe 2 hours. And you don't get the idiot rolling dice and knocking all the armies off the board!!!

If you want a seriously messed up but funny party game I recommend Cards Against Humanity. You can print it off for free (well for the price of printing ink and card loaded into your printer) here http://cardsagainsthumanity.com/. Or pay £30 for a nice boxed set of cards from Amazon.

There's a good game called Knightmare Chess, played with a normal chess board (with cards provided in the pack). It's chess, but better! :D

  • Excellent glad people are still loving board games!

Re: Knightmare Chess, as it happens I am an official agent of Steve Jackson Games, a Man in Black, and that game is unfortunately out of print, but it is a great game, just a shame that its bit got the following to currently justify a reprint.

In terms of Moneysaving, while I would always encourage people to frequent their friendly local gaming store (FLGS) you can make savings by buying online from places like Infinity Games UK, Gameslore and Travelling Man, for example, I just got Ticket to Rude for £31.99 from Infinity Games, and it's £39.99 in my FLGS.

Also board games are great as an evening activity they are a one off cost for hours of fun with friends and family, and I am both talking Monopoly here, I am referring to games like Revolution, Carcassone, Pandemic, Settlers of Catan and Dixit!

We had a meet up recently with a gaming society I 'roll' with, and someone brought this along. At one point I laughed so hard I couldn't see. He'd bought his copy (and it's not that expensive) the cards were good quality.

Some of the things people will put together are a bit... risky :p

In that case, I also recommend Zombie Dice: http://www.sjgames.com/dice/zombiedice/

If you have the ear of SJG, maybe a suggestion that they run a Kickstarter for Knightmare Chess?

I bought it a few months back when it had only just started being imported to UK so was a little pricey. There are 2 expansion packs available too.
  • I will pass along the comments RE: Knightmare Chess, and Zombie Dice is a great game, and they have released Dino Hunt Dice recently which is a more kid friendly version.

I would also advise looking out for the forthcoming game Castellan as well, I was demoing it at the UK Games Expo last month and its a brilliant game.

Oh and cards against humanity is awesome, and cheap if you print it yourself.

Nothing like sitting round playing a board game after a sunday dinner! (we usually do this once a month when the whole family get together!)
