I'll be paying out by Sept too - DS pre school insists on a uniform (including a little peaked cap :D) He will look lovely but I'll just keep thinking "how much?!" when he puts it on :rotfl: I won't be laughing come September :p

Awwwww, bet he'll look super cute though.
I can see the conversation now..

Tigercub: but Mum I don't want to wear it, it makes me look stupid
Tiger: you WILL wear it, do you know how much it cost me
    Tigercub: but it's half term!
Tiger: don't care, the sun's out and I want to get maximum usage out of it :D

The School Uniforms are normally so expensive because the school takes a kickback/commision from the supplier, juts like they do from school photos, book fairs (though in books in some cases) etc. Its like an unofficial fee you have to pay to attend the school. Its worth keeping an eye on Freecycle and local facebook selling pages as there will be people getting rid of old uniform that has been outgrown.

You could also ask your school for details of how much money they make from the sale of uniform etc. If its not a private school then IIRC you should get a response through a freedom of information request to then challenge the school with it. However, this is a funding stream from the school, so they will argue that if they reduced the prices that they would have less funds to do things with "for the children" in school.

DS school has just changed the uniform again.
New logo so whole new load of stuff
I count myself lucky though as they're allowed a 2 year overlap (apart from Septembers intake) and only certain parts of the uniform are compulsary (we live in a scummy area where everybody can afford diddly squat :D )
Still a new blazer is gonna set me back north of £30

I've got to ask though, are all these schools everyones ranting about Academies? DS school is :(

When I was at school you could just by an embroidered badge and sew it onto any old black blazer. The new academy down the road has a funky uniform with fancy coloured lining that they have to wear, so I cant see that being an option for them. It does help them stand out, and it does mean that I know which school they are from when they cause a nuisance walking home past the house.

I will thanks, I am going to test out some healthe and beauty multibuys I have been looking out so will have time to go over them again before going

That's exactly what mine was like.
You'd buy the plain blazer and the badge and sew it on. Then you'd have to add a bit of coloured ribbon to show which house you were in.
None of the uniform was embroidered and it could all be bought from the shop in town that stocked all the bits in every colour the town schools used.
When DS started secondary school I didn't realise the only way I could get the uniform was to order it off the net. No shop anywhere where he could pop in and try stuff on as I bought it  they just got them all in school to try stuff on 3 months before the start of year 7 (inset day?) and told us the sizes from that :(

Re the school uniform: At our school we have so much uniform left at the end of everyday, currently we have several large sacks that we have to drag out if someone realises they lost their jumper 3 months ago. This is all uniform with no name on it, lots of it brand new. Every so many weeks we put it out in the hall and parents are invited to take theirs and any left we offer to give out but no one wants it.

Worth going to the school and asking if they are selling or giving out lost property.

School uniforms :mad: Ive just had DS2 uniform list for next year. Absolutely shocking!! I'll not have much change from £500 by the time Ive done :( . There's absolutely no option for cheaper alternatives at all. They hold you to ransom by only making the stuff available in one place. It really gets on my you know what's
Oh that was a rant :o

Could you not buy the badges and sew them on ' normal' jumpers and blazers ?

£30 For as blazer that you know they will grow out of would make me:mad::mad: to.
the only embroidered thing my son has is a sweat shirt, they are supposed to have a white polo with a badge on but no one bothers they just waer plain white ones and the school does not seem to mind as long as they are neat and tidy so i get the sweatshirt and sports shorts and top from our local sports shop and everything else comes from supermarket, he does not even need proper shoes as they dont mind plain black trainers which he prefers to wear
