There used to be a good site called whywasibanned that highlighted people protesting their ban on the main Xbox forums claiming they were completely innocent then were made to look like idiots when it was demonstrated how they had been cheating. Many of those banned were given permanent bans so Microsoft do take action against Xbox live users but I believe they function mainly through players that have been reported rather than actively moderating.

In general I wouldn't say online gaming is any worse for cheating as it's just an unfortunate part of it whatever system you are on. For this and other reasons I prefer to where possible stick with a group of friends when playing online as it makes it much more enjoyable.

no you can, trust me, I'm amazed you say it doesn't go on, you are either very new to online gaming or having a laugh.

I play PC games, only played age of empiures 3 and world of tanks, these are smart people's games and is about strategy and teamwork. Not the kind of games where people would want to cheat. I guess with FPS games where kids are playing there is likely to be a lot of cheaters.

I do know that on age of empires 3 the game files are hash checked if even modify the .ini settings files to skip the intro video on game load it would flag up a CRC error and will alert everyone that your game is modified. You cannot join other people's games and if you host a game other players will be alerted that your game is modified.

Same with world of tanks. The server controls the HP, and enemy locations. So your game system will not be able to control or identify where enemy locations are until you encounter them.

    cheats varies.

i doesnt matter what server your on people with modified .DLL files, to see through walls and autoaim etc etc can go undetected unless they wish it to be obvious.

some anti cheats pragrams work diffrerntly to others but they are all the same in essence they can be exploited.

nothing is totally imune to cheaters, you have alot to learn.

Cheating in online games originated with PC games. If a game can be cheated in, someone will do it. No game is immune, which is why anti-cheat technology tries to catch people doing it.

I think the problem is many can't see what the ranking are actually for, for me I just play, you start at nothing and keep winning so your rank goes up and you start playing higher ranked people, rinse and repeat until you stop winning all the time, this in then your natural rank and you will keep getting pitted with people of similar skill and will therefore win and lose but still have good games.

The problem is many only see it as a good game if they always win.

you cannot cheat in online games, the server will hash check game files to make sure theyre not modified. Maybe the player has exposed a glitch or using a feature that you are not aware of.

I've been accused of cheating a few times, i play world of tanks and play tank destroyer. I get all the cammo upgrades so my tank cannot be spotted. I had many occasions where plays accused me of cheating because I sniped them from far away and they couldnt even see me.

Play gta IV for a day in online free mode and then come back to me on that. Lets see here... other players controlling your vehicle, setting you on fire, blowing you up, godmode hacks, item and health hacks, ramps, invincible vehicles, flying cars, cars where you're locked in and can't get out... Oh and the worst one, the little sh__s that freeze your Xbox by spawning in a car or other objects that causes a crash.

Gta IV is a really bad example because rock star are a bunch of amateurs who can't program anything for crap, but cheating does happen in online games, all the time.

Oh, and the above examples are on Xbox, but it happens on ps3 and PC too.
    Oh, you wee bazza!

War Commander by Kixeye is rife with hacks. They apparently do weekly hotfixes to counter the scripts but there is little evidence of that. It also take them weeks if not months to ban people now because each account is manually checked because the cheat software they did use banned a load of innocent players.

I really don't get it, I play online to get a less prodictable opponent, if I lose so be it.

I really don't see the point in cheating.

On the flip side there is a great feeling when you know somebody is cheating and you beat them anyway.
