I'd have thought it would be the Register Office? Birth certificates they charge around £7 for, so it's probably something around that area.

According to this site the fee is £7 for a copy certificate. I can't see different councils being allowed to charge differing amounts.

If your divorce has finished, the court can return your marriage certificate at the discretion of the judge ( actually, the person behind the counter but thats the line they use to fob you off). It should be free but you will have to give a written undertaking ( legally binding promise to the court) to return it if asked, as officially it belongs to the court.

Whether the court returns it will depend how much hassle it is for them to go and find it and what sort of mood the counter staff are in. Officially they dont have to so you will need to ask nicely!

The courts reopen tomorrow between 10am and 4:00pm.

WE had to pay £6 a few years ago when either Barclays or the Post Office lost our original.

I believe that after a divorce, the marriage certificate is lodged with the county court.I think I need the original though. Not sure if a certified copy will suffice.

Should have said if you order online, you will need the volume number and page number of cert, this can be found on ancestry:
