I'm with bris - if you spank £50k on a kitchen you're not going to nickel and dime over getting a fitter to fit the kitchen, seeing as you need at least 3 trades anyway to fit the white goods and make good. That carp can do the assembly I'm sure.0

My whole kitchen (including labour to re-plaster parts and rewiring etc. plus all the new appliances) cost me 12K last summer and that was not flat pack. You are spending way in excess of what I spent to buy my first place.
Expensive is dependent on wealth mostly. If you're earning 200k+ a year, 50k is nothing really. If you only earn 30-40k a year then it seems an extortionate amount.
Although personally for 50k, i'd be expecting top of the range and it better sing and dance too :rotfl:You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
This isn't about the cost of a kitchen - some jealous people here. The OP has the right to spend their money on whatever they like.
If I'd spent that much on a kitchen and a £7k unit arrived flat packed, I'd want someone from the company to assemble it for FREE! Asking £350 to do it is a cheek, and shows the company cares more about profit than happy customers.
If they won't come and assemble it, reject the whole lot!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I notice the user is called Lazydoc, Lazy Doctor? Might assume why they don't want to assemble something.
But with a 50K Kitchen surely this not just units, who is otherwise fitting the whole thing? If this one complained about piece is 7K then that means the Doctor is spending £43,000 on fixtures etc although not flat packed and fitting them all himself.
Surely he'd hire someone to do that? Something doesn't sound right?0 -

I completely disagree with this. That works out at 5% of the purchase price. Who is well know for budget flat pack units? Ikea! They charge 20% purchase price + £25

He spent £7000!!!! The joke is you think 5% assembly is a joke compared to what a budget store charges!!!!!0 -
Hi all.
I bought a Kitchen from poliform uk in London, the furniture alone come to around £23k so with appliances and worktops its running close to £50k.
Poliform are suppling the furniture only however when the kitchen arrived I found that one of the tall units came flat packed.
I am VERY unhappy about this. The above unit cost close the £7k alone, its quite a complicated unit with pocket doors and if I try and put it together its never going to be right.
I spoke to the showroom and they are not interested, they have offered to come and put it together for £350 but to be honest if should have come out of the factory in pre assembled. I was told when I bought the kitchen that it comes preassembled.
I am going to have a chat to my solicitor next week but does anyone have any suggestions? I have called my credit card company so hopefully they can dispute the transaction.
I paid the first payment in the shop and the second payment over the phone.
I bet your solicitor will charge you more than £350. Get on checkatrade or similar, find a local kitchen fitter who's prepared to do small jobs, and get them round for a few hours. Stick the kettle on and job's a good 'un - your unit will be assembled in no time at all. Which is the principled answer but leaves you with no kitchen."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

Yep, but with £50k on offer I doubt there will be a shortage of people happy to supply (and assemble) a new one0 -
Sorry if i offend anyone but i find this thread amusing.
I worked for a kitchen company that supplied flat pack kitchens, My sister in law a wannabe snob, Said oh no i don't want a flatpack one i want a custom built one. Then mentioned the name of the company. I said you do know they have a unit around the corner where they assemble the units that we supply and deliver them to you built up.
Large corner units and tall housings tend to get delivered flatpack because they are likely to get damaged loading them and delivering them.
Thats a lot of money for a kitchen, But if you tick all the options it soon adds up. Granite worktops can cost a fortune.
Some taps can cost thousands.
I delivered a glossy kitchen to a large house in the middle of nowhere, They were told it will scratch very easily yet still wanted it. Their response was its only for show it wont be used.
