Do Earplugs Work?

I live in a place where my housemate plays very loud music.. I've tried asking him to turn it down but it's in the daytime he won't.. is there anything I can do myself to stop me from going crazy do earplugs work at reducing the music sound alot? I just need to hear myself think and can't focus on my college work or anything with my head feeling like it's going to explode..

If you buy reasonable quality ones, then yes they do help significantly

If I was you I'd. Pop down to boots ( have used there foam ones and they work well) and pick some up.

The housemate sounds really nasty. Anyway, yes, I got foam ones (not wax ones) and they are OK. I think the secret of their success is to slightly, and gently, pull them so that they are very thin before putting them in your ear. Just rolling them takes ages, and they fall out. If you are unhappy with these, then swimmers' earplugs might be a consideration.

Id speak to the landlord and tell him/her you are considering moving out.

Meanwhile i recommend these possibly cheaper elsewhere..

No matter what sort of earplug you use, the do tend to attenuate higher freqs better and a bit of bass creeps through. These i find are very good though. They are soft, mouldable and form a great seal.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • i use earplugs most nights, from superdrug..i never hear a thing when my son has pals round and music on, or the upstairs neighbours are banging about :j

I was given some foam ones when I was in hospital & they were very good at blocking out noise. A nurse told me that the trick was to squeeze them as small & tight as possible before inserting them in your ear as this made them more effective.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

I have used earplugs for the past 40years.The best ones I have found are the wax ones from Boots, far superior to any foam ones.

    Thanks guys.

Apart from the loud music it wouldn't be so bad if my housemates could actually sing but it sounds like a cat getting strangled!
