They are treated differently because otherwise under the normal banking rules they would not be able to get anything and as we know the politicians seem intent on making sure students(and their parents) end up in as much debt as is possible.
Not generally the case,
I assume the student mentioned above is studying for a degree. The reason students qualify for full facility banking is they they are seen by the banks as future high earners so banks are keen to get and keep custom as early on as possible. Most accounts with a debit card and an overdraft require some form of funding such as a parental contribution or a student Loan so the person above must have put this at the time of the application.0 -

No my son is not studying for his degree untill Sept/Oct later this year which will be his first year providing he has the pints to qualify. The only thing he can think of for them giving him the current account is the fact that he has 10k tied up in a high interest earner with them which he cant get his hands on for a number of years. They didnt even ask if he would be funding the account on a monthly basis as he was depositing some money given to him by his dad. I don't feel its a wise move on any bank to offer debt to anyone student or not when they can see clearly they don't earn a wage. It doesn't make sense to me but then again maybe there is something i'm not seeing0 -
Turning into Scrooge - your freudian slip made me laugh:providing he has the pints to qualify.
I know students are stereotypically known for drinking, but this is taking things a bit too far! :beer:0 -
