Last time I ever got infected was when I was using AVG Free. It found the virus, but told me after I was infected, in other words it used a curative approach rather than preventive.
Let's be honest: maybe it's good for free, but it doesn't even come close to say NOD32 if you are ready to shell out some cash.
Good news is that AVG is still way better than the overhyped ClamAV which doesn't have real time scanning and has poor detection rate even in on-demand scans.

I have to agree with the above as well, I think AVG is a Good Free version but their are better paid for versions. Such as NOD32 and Kaspersky.

Ive come across numerous times when Ive gone to look at some ones pc that they have AVG installed and Ive managed to find viruses on their system that was causing the problem.

I would rather pay for the best versions around for something as important as pc security. I know free would be better but I personally dont trust AVG that much from my experience.

This is why you can't rely on anecdotal evidence, the first one appears to be a false positive and you can't determine the individual circumstances. You also don't know the usage statistics to put it into a proper context and therefore can't assign any meaning to any correlation. Eg are there more AVG users than Avast? If there were a majority of Avast users would we suddenly see an influx of posts from Avast users with trojans. Far too many variables to make any kind of conclusive statement like "if you have AVG you are more likely to get a trojan". There also is probably an element of selective perception.

Actually, I only posted two threads because I can't be bothered to search for more. Seemingly, neither could you.

I haven't applied any statistical analysis. I've simply noted that many posters with 'Trojan' problems also had AVG installed.
Do a search..... if you can be bothered.

I use that. Seems fine to me - I'm virus free. I've used avast in the past but I prefer activevirusshiled.

I think it's a modified version of the quite good Kaspersky anti virus.

Personally, I use up to date versions of Kaspersky and NOD32 on my machines, with Kaspersky being my current favourite. :)

Actually I did, I also changed AVG for different AV search terms as well and there seem to be plenty of problems using different AV packages. All I was saying is that there isn't much point in stating something doesn't work without harder facts. Of course having and expressing an opinion is fine, as long as it is clear that it's opinion. Not having a go at you personally, just if you notice something then every time you notice the same thing it reinforces the original conjecture without objectivity. That's selective perception, it's not something that people do consciously and everyone does it, including me. I was trying to give the OP an objective view from my own personal experience without extrapolating that to generalisations.
So no need to be flippant.

Thus far, most of your posts on this thread have been extrapolations on what I actually wrote.

Out of interest, which were the other AV packages which appeared to let Trojans through?

Can you provide a couple of links?

I'm tempted to suggest that you are simply 'waffling', but for now, I will 'hold fire'.

LOL, I think we should agree to disagree. I've no interest in flaming. No hard feelings, eh?
