Auto-payouts are a business decision usually based on smaller claims amounts. No investigation takes place and the Bank offers a "goodwill amount" to stave off paying the FOS fee and so paying out even more.
It has absolutely nothing to do with being self-employed (or any complaint reason).

No. Different banks have different reasons for auto payouts. What I'm stating here is fact, RBS do auto-payouts to people who prove that they were self-employed when they took out the insurance.

Moneyinept, just thinking that myself, where do you get your information from, you have no clue what your talking about. I think you just like the sound of your own voice ( posts ) and butting into other people forums which has nothing to do with you.:p.

Since auto-payouts are by their very nature done without any investigation, why would the complainant have to "prove" anything?

Where did you get this information?
In fact, I could ask the same question of every post you've made on this forum so far...

Well if you wanna nit pick I might of used the word auto-payout wrong, but my point is that with RBS, self-employed = payout guaranteed. Where I got the information, I won't say in the open, I'll only say that on this subject, it's reliable.

You called me out on my other post, which was fair and I accepted your response, since I dont know much about CMC's and that's why I posted questions and suggestions rather than a solid answer. But in this case you need to check your ego a bit, cause you're shutting down someones response when you don't actually know the detail of how RBS deal with self-employment cases.

It's not nit-picking, it's entirely different. If the Bank are investigating it simply means they are upholding a valid complaint.

Auto payouts are done without any investigation and can mean that complainants are granted redress even without a valid complaint.

I think it goes without saying that those with a valid complaint should get a refund.

    Hello

Do you know if this also applies to temporary workers or specifically just self employed?

    Cheers

Hi, if you're with RBS then as far as I'm aware it's only self-employed customers unfortunately. But for temporary workers, you're in a very strong position to make a complaint if you took out PPI by phone or in branch with an advisor.

It would help if you still have your Certificate of Insurance to check the policy on eligibility. Majority of them state that you must be in work for over 16 hours per week and have been in employment for 6 months, you also must not be aware of any likely unemployment.

A strong reason to uphold, in that case, will be something along the lines of. I was only told I needed to be employed to have the policy and the advisor never asked me if I was in temporary work. I left my job soon after taking the policy on DD/MM/YYYY, which would mean that this whole time I would not have been eligible to claim.

You'll have to make a consistent and convincing argument, just to be safe, but to be fair I don't think your case will be too difficult to argue. Also revise and remember your complaint, because you're likely to get a call asking for more or to confirm detail.

This all only works for phone or branch applications. If you took the policy online or by post, you'll get a reply saying you should have read the T&C.

    Hope this helps
  • It was taken out in branch. I still recall the name of the bloke that processed it! V distinctive name!

    But - taken out in 1994 :(

Sar to rbs didnt reveal any paperwork

I dont have the loan agreement but do have my bank statements.

Worked on a temp contract for nhs - i sent them a letter and they had my 'new employee' form held on microfiche showing a 13w contract.

Really dont know if its worth the hassle sending in a complaint as the SAR didnt show the loan docs. Obviously with the passage of time I am assuming its an easy rejection for rbs?

Actually the opposite, because the less documents they have, the less they have to defend themselves. If your recollections match up to the very little information that they hold, they won't be able to justify any reason to reject your complaint.

I'm not too sure what you meant about your NHS contract. Have you sent a copy of your contract into RBS? I can only imagine that would help your case. Even if you don't they actually don't look too deep into that kind of detail before upholding.
  • Just meant I had a copy of new starter form ( name address ni number blah blah) and its clearly on it that it was a temporary position!

Thanks for all your help. Cheers
