A poster on the techie board suggested I try here for some advice.
My Panasonic HDD DVD Recorder has completely packed up - no power in it whatsoever - after just 16 months, but of course 4 months out of the standard 12 month warranty.
I bought it from Amazon, who didn't want to know and said contact Panasonic, who also weren't interested.
Now I wouldn't be too bothered if it was a £15 iron or kettle, but it cost over £200 and I rather hoped to get a bit more use out of it.
I always buy Panasonic because I believed they were one of the best makes.
Until today I had never heard of SOGA and although I have read quite a bit of Martin's info about this, am still a bit unsure with regard to items that are out of warranty.
Has anybody actually tried to use SOGA against Amazon and, if so, what was the outcome?
Many thanks.

Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time

Post #2 on your other thread has some good advice.
However, you appear to misunderstand the Section 75 stuff.
If you purchased with a credit card, then the credit card company is equally responsible with the seller for performance of the contract.
It does not matter whether the seller is Amazon or Panasonic, your contract is with whoever sold the thing to you.
Panasonic have every right to do nothing for you once the warranty has expired.
You say you have read about SoGA.
Have you read MSE's Consumer Rights article?
How about their How to Complain guide?
The Section 75 Refunds document may well be useful too.
As Amazon are not willing to help at this stage, you will need to get a report from a competent person which states that the fault is inherent, i.e. not due to misuse, user error or fair wear and tear.
You will then need to present your case to Amazon and await their response.
Having read those articles above, you will see that if the fault is inherent, then they must provide a remedy.
That remedy could be a repair, replacement or a refund.
If a refund is decided upon, then it can be a partial refund to take account of the use you have had.
I could go on, but let's wait and see what Amazon say to that.0 -
I'm surprised Amazon are not being more helpful. I had some (rather expensive!) headphones go faulty after eighteen months, and was offered a full refund after mentioning I had seen reports of other people having the same problem, so implying an inherent fault. Sometimes it is as simple as speaking to another operator?
Have you checked if anyone else has reported the same problem?0
