As far as I'm aware there is no damage to my credit file as yet,
If it's reached the stage that your bank has issued a LBA regarding a debt on a current account, that would be very surprising. Have you checked all three CRAs?jonesMUFCforever wrote: »Yes that's right - I have supported them when they were skint and in the old second division - a long time ago LOL:T
Don't worry, they'll soon be back there now the canny Scotsman's moved on...;)Optimists see a glass half full

OK, you've convinced me, I will pay them the £469 they are demanding on condition that that is the end of the matter from their end, no more payments and no more demands from them. But I'll speak to their recoveries section before I pay it across. If they say they are still responding to demands from Sky, what then?0 -
No - CPAs are different to other types of payments, so Nationwide had no option but to authorise the payments.
Unless of course the OP's cancellation attempt with Nationwide did post-date 01/11/2009.
Agree that going into/increasing an unauthorised overdraft couldn't be relied upon to stop the payments.0 -
For the umpteenth time contact Sky and tell them you do not want their service and cancel the CPA !OK, you've convinced me, I will pay them the £469 they are demanding on condition that that is the end of the matter from their end, no more payments and no more demands from them. I have done that, many times, and spoken to NW, again many times. Nobody listens, they just pursue their own agenda.
Remember the guy in Rochdale that the service is supposed to belong to? Well I'm not him, and without his details Sky wont stop the service or even speak to me. Catch 22.0 -

Don't keep speaking to them. Write a letter then follow complaints process. Letter should make it clear that as per your previous requests, no further payments are to be made. Remind them of the law, if you like.0 -
Conclusion.
I decided to have one more attempt with NW, so I walked into a branch office yesterday and asked to speak to the manager.
She listened to the tale and immediately called their recoveries section.
The matter was resolved there and then, all fees and penalties refunded. The old account properly closed down.
I'm quite pleased.
To be fair I was lucky getting someone with some common sense that could think out of the box.0 -

At some stage during the back and fro I spoke to Sky who informed me that the contract I was paying for belonged to someone that lived in Gateshead, I've never lived in Gateshead in my life. I've never even been there..
So why at that point when you found out that you were paying for someone else did you not approach Nationwide.
Giving them the full details of your discussions with Sky and get it processed as fraud.
Add in at that point sky should also have ceased payments. I guess the installer was running a scam for people who did not have cards and taking cash from them. While giving sky other peoples card details to take the payments.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
Excellent news Jamie, well done.
I presume then that the first time you asked Nationwide to stop paying Sky was after 01/11/2009 and they realised they should have acted upon your request originally.
At least you've learned a few lessons now, albeit you didn't really do much wrong in the first place but the most valuable is that according to the terms and conditions of all bank / current accounts with a debit card, the customer agrees that any attempted authorisation against a debit card for the account they are making a formal request for an overdraft, agreed or otherwise so as far as Nationwide were concerned, as per the terms of the account, Sky requesting the £20 from the debit card resulted in you, as the account holder, requesting Nationwide lend you £20 in the form of an unarranged overdraft.
Nasty way for banks to phrase their T&Cs but it's in there unfortunately, and we've all agreed to it if we've got a debit card
