Is any of this an issue if you no longer drive? For example, my licence is in date but with a previous address, however I don't drive at the moment and only use it as proof of age. Would it be invalid for this purpose too? I know it's very easy to change the address but I actually prefer having my old one on there, as if my bag were stolen the thieves would have my keys and "address" but they wouldn't match up.

If you need to replace a licence because of a change of address - it (used to be, and I assume still is) free
And to be a true legal document - it should be up to date
So yes - I would advise you to update it.

If the face on the license is easily recognizable as the driver then i dont see the issue. Anyway,as a free man of this country, i reserve the right to drive on the highway provided ive passed my test and paid for my road tax, insurance and fuel.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Has anyone actually been fined a penny for not updating their driving licence ?
This appears to just be another case of scaremongering by MSE, OK they COULD fine you up to £1000 for not updating it - but would any sane magistrate seriously fine you for such a trivial offence ?
I don't honestly believe that they would......
Murderers have received less harsh penalties !!
OK, I'll bite. How many murderers can you name who have been let off with a fine of less than £1000?

Actual murderers please, not just people you happen to think should have been convicted of murder but weren't.

Any murderer that you may care to mention - they are just given custodial sentences (ie FREE b&b for around 20 years. less with good behaviour) - no fine at all !!!
Historically - probably thousands got away scott free (pre forensics - no proof was available)

Very funny. However magistrates are by and large sane people who see many years in prison as a harsher penalty than a small fine, so they're unlikely to refuse to fine people on the grounds that "murderers get less than that".

For cars and motorbikes, not until you're 70, or 3 years from now, whichever is later.

I have just made a FOI request on DVLA to see just how many people were fined (and how much revenue DVLA made from this source) over the last 3 years - DVLA HAS to answer within 20 days - so watch this space - I will post the response here as soon as I receive it.......

I have received a reply from DVLA (Already) - claiming (in my eyes UNBELIEVABLY) - Not to hold any information on the number of people prosecuted in the last 3 years for not holding up to date driving licences !!
They tell me that the offence is non endorseable and is down to the Police ...
I have requested an internal review - since they MUST have the data.....
