Rozee, are you decoration your selves?

Tbh, most people live in a place they are decorating, so if decorating is all that's left I'd get in there tbh.

At that stage the time you spend deciding could be a room or two painted!

Personally I think I'd do kids rooms first, just because gives paint / decor most time to 'air'.

To decorate empty, newly finished rooms isn't such a nightmare is it? You can do the watery first coat in all the rooms in one go for example?
LIR, we are trying to do as much as we can of the finishing ourselves, but we need to paint certain walls so that the radiators can be hung and the electrics can be finished (second fixes). We also haven't yet finalised the heating system.

I may be a little odd, but I really don't mind living in the caravan when it's dry and bright and the weather is improving. We have loads of hatchlings to distract us, too. Here's a pic of the latest https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/98410421/2014-04-10%2014.56.26.jpg

I have seen it all now!!!!!!

some guy threw up on our land... so I asked him to clean it up... he said it isn't on the path, and I said no its on our land... he said he dint have anything to clean it up with, so I give him a bag.... he then started mouthing off about how its a public footpath etc... and I duely replied yes going through our garden, would you like to throw up in your garden and leave it??

he was then saying he has walked the path for 40 od years, an I wasn't going to stop him... and I said I no we don't want to stop people walking the path, we just want people to realise it is private land... so respect it...

He did ask if I had a bin for the bag... and I said no....

If any of that puke ended up in the pig run, and they ate it????? plus anyone could have stepped in it .....yew

  • Charming! or otherwise re the guy being sick on your land. I can understand if someone is sick through no fault of their own (ie because they are ill, as opposed to drunk or similar) and they do so on a part of a public footpath that doesn't go through someone's garden.

But if its a part that is running through a garden, then I wouldn't want to get into a debate about who actually legally owns that 2' or so strip that is footpath (rather than private garden) and would tend to thinking it should be cleared-up.

I'll admit to not knowing the law myself on that one, as obviously the home-owner owns land up to 1" (or so) up to the left side of the footpath and the same again the other side of the footpath. I don't actually know who owns a footpath itself and presume its us (ie all of us).

I guess that's why he went off on one (as he doesn't know what the ownership situation is either), but I would have cleared up personally even if it had been on the footpath itself, rather than beside the footpath iyswim.

the footpath is owned by the land owner.. so basically they are walking through our land... its a 'right of way' for them to walk from A to B..

Even though it is our land.. the council have got to maintain the actual path surface..

so basically people should realise.. ALL footpaths are owned by someone... or the council..

Wish people would realise...the only right they have is to walk on the actual path... not to be sick.. lets their dogs run wild along it etc...

Think when I do get the signs done... it will also include you are walking through private land...please bloody respect it!!!

no land is owned by the general public.... its just some you have a right to walk on a strict designated path through it

  • OMG I would have freaked if that was me! I really can't cope with people sick (I have a weird phobia since being sick as a child) so I would have gone mental at him!

I am also thinking about some signs to go on our various gates, need so e careful wording so as not to put people - punters- off. The entrance to the 'farm' part of our place is set a little way back from the road, away from the house. People just let themselves in, not thinking animals might be behind the gates, there usually is a dog or three, plus things escape all the time. We also have big gates across the driveway by the house, they're hinged the wrong way so we can't open them to get a car in ATM! But still One time a delivery bloke actually took a gate off to deliver some roofing, there was blatantly no building going on near the house, and people were working in the yard- as if I'd ask for something to be put there! I get quite arsey about it sometimes, but he got the worst bollocking I've ever dished out! But then if anything happened you know they'd deny any responsibility, meanwhile there's pigs or goats or sheep loose on the main road!

Have you got the weekend off CTC? There's a gardening show happening in Cardiff, wish I could spare the time to go for a bit of inspiration but not while the weathers this good! I am doing wonderwool in a couple of weeks, are you attending again?

Yes I do have 3 pedigree Tamworth girls, Jenny is a Large Black, no pedigree, I got her nearly two years ago, she was in pig then too. The father is Winston the Iron Age boar, you can't see from the photos really but they are all stripey, some gingery some just black and grey.

Breeding is a lot more involved than just raising a couple of weaners, and not necessary if you just want some pork for the freezer. Get weaners in say June or July and they'll be ready late autumn or early winter. No dreary winter for them or you, they just have a fun summer, and they're gone before you need to think about extra feeding to keep them warm or bringing them indoors...it's all good!

I'm going to get some hatching chicken eggs this week, looking for coloured egg layers ideally, and I want some to hatch in a month when hubby is home on leave, he needs cheering up big time, plus it will be his birthday present!

I could do a batch of geese eggs but I never get round to killing them at Xmas so I've got three generations here now! I do love them and there are lots of females so I get loads of eggs which are popular lately...must save some for decorating for Easter!

I love your birdies Rozzee, it's a very rewarding thing to hatch your own.

Well I have been invited out for dinner so must think about getting animals ready for bed then treating myself to a quick barrrrrfff, I smell of farm yard!
  • Forgot to ask CTC are you confident with giving injections etc? If so it might be an idea to have some oxytocin on hand to help in case the delivery isn't progressing, if you don't already, plus the usual anti-bs. A vet will do the same but it's the time scale of getting them to you, they can tell you on the phone what to do if you have the stuff there... There's something called piglet kick start and also you can get piglet colostrum, again handy to have on hand, I have some if you need it short notice but it's all on-line!

I always set up a heated creep for the little ones to stay in while she's giving birth, just in case she isn't relaxing into it, you can stash them out of the way but I've never needed it, and the babies don't use it after , they always prefer to stay with mum.

Also I know some people swear by giving beer/ale/stout at birthing to calm mum down. If she doesn't like it you can always swig it!

    nope haven't got that stuff,

got vet on speed dial... hubby will be ok to give injections, me I got to look the other way lol...

didn't know about the show FK, but wouldn't go anyway, as I want to stay here to keep an eye on mum to be, plus watching her all the time, will teach/show me the signs etc.. at the moment I am comparing her to a pregnant dog..lol...

I have spent hours just watching her belly move... it always amazes me..

cant wait to see what colours we get lol...

We have loads of primroses growing in the "hedge". :j These ones are thrums I think.

This gives you an idea of how nicely they are spreading. :j OH tells me we have some round the back of the caravan now too. I would be so chuffed if they spread all round the field! :)

We bought them maybe 10 years ago? Just 2 or 3 plants grown from proper collected wild seed - it's illegal to take wild plants. We've moved some this year, as they'd spread into the bit of field that gets mowed so would be killed by that. Not sure if they'll have a home at house or at lottie. My preference is lottie I think, as we have loads of weird coloured primulas in garden, and they'd cross pollinate.

At least when we bought them I managed to find both pins (female) and thrums (male), only way for them to spread. Need to search for thrums in "hedge", majority on brief first look seem to be pins...

Forgot to put this pic in last post - it's one of our herb pots that is looking really good despite not having any care since prob November! Most of the other pots are looking a bit rubbish, and we seem to have a lot of thistles growing in them. :o   But this pot looks nice. Rosemary, curry plant, oregano, and I've forgotten what the other thing is, but it's a salad plant that has a big tap root. Geez, how useless am I! :rotfl:

Was amazed to see the rosemary is flowering - in past years I've used rosemary flowers in salads in late May.
