The other thing that happens to us sellers is about 25% of buyers with questions don't come back to you.
Question, "what size, is the widget because it needs to go on a special line?"
Answer, "we have all sizes, which do you need?"
    No reply.

I think about 25% of buyers have already gone elsewhere or bought something else from you, rather than wait for answers, sometimes even within a few seconds and you wonder why they went to the trouble to question.
After a long time, you can imagine the effect this would have on a seller.

Of the remaining percentage, only a fraction of those will lead to a sale.

I agree Baliisticbrian, I seem to find those that ask questions- usually daft ones that are fully covered in the auction anyway- never bother to bid.

I'm still getting the 'if I win can I please come and collect?' and even though I say yes no problem they never bid.

I had one last week as well, asking about combined postage- which I answered in full and even took the trouble of weighing the things they asked about to get a quote- and they have not as yet bought anything even though I could actually get everything they wanted in the same box for their country and at the same p and p cost as just one item.

If your auction has all the sizes, colours, what method of post you intend to use, then there really is no point in would-be buyers making contact with annoying questions. I compiled a list of questions and ticked the do not allow potential buyers to contact me button. After they win the item they can contact me , as I had so many timewasters also prevents those ones who send spam and fake phishing emails get bounced too.

I always found that only people who send messages are the ones too lazy to read the full listing and in the end they never even place a bid (technical name timewasters). People who see your item and want it will bid for it without a need to ask daft questions if you are GOOD seller and it is all described wonderfully.

Ask a seller a question was probably only invented for the stupid sellers benefit! lol ie for people who do this "ladies jacket" as a headline and then take a faraway image, but they decide to not list the material/size/condition and then a frustrated potential buyer likes the look of it but knows nothing about it and asks all those questions over a series of emails!

In summary, the ask a seller a question button on ebay is reserved for idiots and cutting back on idiot emails helps people to live a full and exciting life !

I have given up with EBay for possible purchase of camera in region of £250 or more. Since posting I have asked a couple of more sellers & to date not had any reply from any seller on any camera. This is despite their information being very scanty indeed without even the basics of age & source being covered.

So EBay OK for selling but not buying for me from now on.

I would never buy an electronic item off someone on ebay for my own peace of mind, unless it was the Argos outlet and brand new, you get the full years warranty, and the free return if breaks inside a year etc, but when using distance buying you need to make sure you only buy from a VAT registered business seller on ebay, if you get a shoddy camera from a private seller ,or some guy in a market you will playing Russian roulette .

Look at Amazon they are good, (but dont chose a "marketplace seller"!)

If you asked me the number of shutter clicks - i'd ignore it too - as i have not got a clue what it means.

You do know that VAT registered only means they have >£75k turnover, don't you? No more or no less guarantee that they will still be trading/give a toss if you have a fault at some future date than any other (non-VAT-registered) business.

But at least I can be assured you won't buy from me, hoorah.

OP, why do you want to know whether it's UK bought and whether you will get (I presume you mean, original) receipt? Are you a filthy scammer? Because that's what that Q would mean to me and I would block you and ignore.

It depends, I always try to respond to the item and if its a factual question will sometimes tick the box for it to be displayed.

I do find I often do get more questions sent within the last day or few hours of an auction. I don't always get to answer them as I don't access the listings via a phone and am not necessarily going to receive them before the item ends.
  • Yup - I agree with GoldieGirl. Block those questioners immediately as you just know that they will be trouble....

Most people selling DSLR cameras will know IMHO.
