When you said in your first post that your pc was changed and now you have XP did you mean just the operating system was changed to XP on your existing pc or you have a whole new computer system which has XP? I only ask because an older system with, perhaps, limited disk space/memory etc., might struggle to cope with video transfer/editing tasks.
Anyway, regardless, if you want to transfer the actual video footage from the DV tape to your pc you need (as shrek101 has said) a firewire cable and, a PCI firewire card, assuming your computer doesn't have one. As Flimber has said these are available fairly cheaply from the likes of ebuyer.
Just in case you already have a firewire port(s) check for them physically (look for thing as shown at bottom of this page http://www.coolnerds.com/Newbies/Ports/ports.htm )
and/or check control panel (in classic view) > System > Hardware > Device manager for entries for IEEE 1394 controllers/devices.
If you have no firewire you need to buy the card and install it. (Search this forum or rest of internet for information. Fairly straightforward, assuming you have a spare slot in the pc)
Definately wouldn't bother with the Pansonic deal.
Probably worth checking your computer (Start > All Programs) to see if you have Windows Movie Maker (as mentioned by shrek101) installed.0 -
The moviemaker 2 is surprising good with quiet a few features I didnt think they would have for I assumed was very basic, how worng I was. The only problem I have which goes with most editing sofwtare I have used, which is quiet a few now is usb2 has little support for transferring to dvd, it seems firewire is more widly supported.
Moviemaker 2 comes with XP sp2. If you havent got it check start/all programs
Then get it from here

Glad to see your sorted. I just got the new Ulead video studio 9 the other day. Seems a lot better than version 8 and can record via firewire from tape at 2x speed. Also seems to beter support my dv camera thna the previous version.
