Have to admit, I've never tipped removal men - just made them tea/coffee and fuelled them with biscuits. I've always gone with 'good' well-known firms and assume they pay a decent wage to their workers and that covers them doing the job rather than me having to top it up. When I worked as a waitress in the days before minimum wage I'd always hope for tips, but any job I've had since then I wouldn't expect people to tip me, I'm doing the job my employer pays me to do.

(Now I'm worried I'm the only non-tipper for removal men....!!)

I'd defo tip, you never know when you need to move again! |I'd say £10 per person, per half day.

Last lot i had in were furniture disposal crew, were there for about 30 mins, but i gave them £10 total for a round of beers after work.

thanks everyone, you've reassured me that the idea of tipping is ok. I'd kind of planned to (provided they do a good job!). like the idea of providing bacon butties too, not least because that means I get to have one as well!!!!!

they're getting paid plenty of money ,so i why tip them!

You're paying a wedge, but only a fraction of it goes to the guys doing the lifting. Only right to tip.

One thing - have cold drinks ready - I moved on a scorching day last year (yes there was one) and every time I put a full glass of cold orange juice down and blinked, it disappeared.

Think I gave them £20 quid each - they really worked like Trojans.

I definitely tip - around £20 per man is about the going rate.

I also keep them fed and watered. feed them well Bacon butties, tea, biscuits, cake, cold drinks, the lot.

I also always make sure that any tradesperson coming to my house gets well looked after too. I'm no Nigella but a bit of home made cake always seems to go down a storm......
