tipping removal men?

Moving day is fast approaching, so I was wondering Is it the done thing to give the removal men a tip (if you think they've done a good job)? if so, how much (roughly)? How? (individual to each, or give the boss something for the crew?). I am stocking up with tea / coffee / cake / biscuits etc etc etc!

When we moved (2 years ago) the removal team (3 in total) did a good job so we gave them £60 in total (£20 each) - this was from a total bill of c.£800. They will appreciate the tea and biscuits!

Yes, we have always tipped, it will depend on whether you have them half a day or two days. We gave our last lot £10 each and that was 7 years ago. But they had tea every hour and keeping up with that was a job in itself.

We kept them going in teas/coffee, bought them a muccy Ds lunch, and gave them a crate of beer each as it was friday and had been scorching hot.

    They were worth every penny.

I paid around £900 for the move, gave the two or three blokes (forgotten already) who packed a tenner each, and gave the three who did the move the next day £40-50 (again, forgotten - all too traumatic to remember the finer details now lol!).

But then they did stop off on the way to my new house to collect a fridge freezer for me which I'd bought off ebay! It was en route and only a mile from home, but I did think it deserved a bit extra.

Also, my sofa wouldn't fit in. Would have had to have been left outside and disposed of. They managed to cut the leather base, unbolt the arm, then piece it all back together in the lounge for me. Can't tell from looking at it.

(btw, lots of replies to this question before if you want to search the forum.)

  • I wasn't planning on tipping my removal men but then a delay getting into my new property (completion happened but vendors weren't out) meant that they were late finishing that day by several hours, therefore tipped them £20 each (2 men).

We had 5 guys over 3 days on our last move. We gave the forman £100 to split as he saw fit (different blokes had done different amounts of work on the move). Bacons sarnies on arrival, industrial levels of tea and biscuits, and we dropped a couple of crates of beer on the lorry as it left.

They were worth every penny, and more....

I last moved about 8 years ago and as we were going into storage I had separate loads and unloads.

I gave both teams of two £20 each.

Decent removal men are worth a lot.

  • Wait and see what you think on the day. Our last removal men held us to ransom on the day and wanted more money than we'd originally agreed - so there went their tip!

Yes, there were two of them, the move cost £200, that is all, (we used a local man and his pal who had just started up.) They were fast and efficient, and we had a LOT of stuff. Gave them £240 in total. :) So a £20 tip each. Seems to be roughly the going rate for many. :)

they're getting paid plenty of money ,so i why tip them!

lots of people do their job well on a daily basis without getting tipped? why's a removalist any different?
