Removing chimneys - is this quote fair?

Ok any advice would be appreciated....

mid terrace - remove 2 x chimney stacks (4 pots in each) one front and one back of property to just below roof line

scaffolding

batten felt and tile over

clear all rubbish = £1656.00 including vat (to be split 50:50 with neighbour)

and

to over clad front soffit with white UPVC (my property only) = £240.00 including VAT

Despite ringing many builders/roofers this is the only quote we have managed to get between us so I need to know if its reasonable as have nothing else to compare it with

Many Thanks

£1656 is a fair price, but i wouldn't recommend over cladding soffits

    plumb1 thanks for your reply.

I mentioned to a friend the problems I was having in getting quotes and she gave me the phone number of her brother in law who is a roofer

He has been out today and phoned me with a quote for the chimney removals with no scaffolding for £600 total !!

The previous quote was obtained by my neighbour and he seems to think the latest quote must be dodgy because its so much lower, and dangerous with no scaffolding ? Any thoughts ?? £1000 difference is a huge amount (my share would be £300 instead of £828)

Not sure what to do about the soffits. Cant get quotes from anyone else and am unable to get up a ladder myself and paint them

    Thanks again
