Halifax default

Just remembered this....
In 2010 I defaulted on an Halifax account. This was made up of mainly charges for a service they used to offer which was £10 per month. I did cancel this however they kept taking the money out meaning I went overdrawn. At the time I refused to pay the money back as I had put in a request over the phone.
This default is now paid off.
Is there any way I can go about maybe getting this money back? Not too bothered about the default as I am sure I was overdrawn slightly anyway.

It will be difficult as you didn't cancel in writing, but you may be able to convince them you cancelled over the phone. What will your verse be?

Well in principal the phone would be recorded for 'training purposes', and I used this feature after being incorrectly charged for removing money from a 60 day notice account. i.e. they (HSBC) said I didn't give 60 days notice, I said I did, and the phone records proved I was right.
However this was at the time of the dealing, going back 3 years is probably hopeful at best. Are you really fretting over £10 from 3 years ago?!!0 -
No. I was paying £10 "per month" which took me into an unauthorised overdraft. They continued for about 6 months - hense why I defaulted because I had cancelled yet they hadn't done it their end.TOTAL OUTSTANDING DEBTS CURRENT BALANCES: Allied International - £3359.61, Blair Oliver & Scott - £1394.65, Lloyds TSB - £211.22, Lloyds TSB - £3125.80, Wescot - £966.25

Hello,
I would write to the CEO or similar, as with most things, going right to the top normally gets things moving.

Write to the CEO over £60 3 years ago?? Cancel the board meeting I've got other business to attend to!
Look - forget it! It's old cheap and not worth any money! aka Pat Butcher :;0 -
It's not the money I am interested in.
The point is, this is what made me default on the Halifax account. If they hadn't kept taking the £10 I wouldn't have gone into an unauthorised overdraft.TOTAL OUTSTANDING DEBTS CURRENT BALANCES: Allied International - £3359.61, Blair Oliver & Scott - £1394.65, Lloyds TSB - £211.22, Lloyds TSB - £3125.80, Wescot - £966.25

You could send a SUbject Access Request.
Should list significant events on the account and maybe call dates.
Cost you £10 and take 40 days.
You could complain while waiting for it. They will either just fob you off, then you can take to FOS or less likely do as you ask for an easy FOS fee saving life.:beer:0 -
Why didn't you tackle this three years ago?0

I opened an account with Barclays a few years ago with the same thing, a monthly account fee. Never went over one month overdrawn with the fee (£10) and recently closed the account, settling the most recent amount of £10.
Having finally ordered my credit report last week, I noticed that the Barclays account was shown as closed but with an "arrangement to pay" attached to it.
Not knowing what this was, I looked online here at the forum to discover that it's only going to have a negative impact on my credit rating.
Having spent 3 hours on the phone, and 2 trips to a Barclays branch, someone has finally managed to get hold of the relevant Barclays team and this afternoon I was promised it would be removed from my credit report within 48 hours.
Once this is removed, am I going to notice a dramatic improvement in my credit rating???
This is the only default (bar one overdraft arrear of a month back in 2009) that I have on my file.0
